That was in middle school. In high school, I didn’t care anymore and just walked over anyone who annoyed me. Not a proud moment in my life.

“I can behave too, you know!?” Dad grumbles, but when Mom hugs him, he seems to melt.

I smile a bit, deciding to finally go and look for my brother. “Is Tony here?”

“No, he successfully evaded me the whole morning and now went to lead the training with the older teens. I don’t know how he always does that,” Dad shakes his head. “Slipping past me without me noticing it.”

“Years of practice, Dad,” I say dryly.

Mom just chuckles while Dad narrows his eyes at me.

“One day, you will laugh about it,” I point out.

“It’s too soon, I think.” Dad sighs. “Wait! Before you leave, a package arrived for you. Deacon went to the post office and collected our mail for the day. Here.” He reaches for something behind his desk and hands me my mail. One is an envelope with my monthly phone bill, another a flyer for a new pizza restaurant, and a package.

Oh! That has to be the one from eBay!

I take my stuff, nod towards my parents, and leave while opening the package. It’s indeed the figurine, in perfect condition. That dude with the beard, Altus Tattledore, or something. I have no idea what Tony likes about this stuff, but as someone who has no hobbies at all, I’ll certainly not mock his.

I make my way to his suite. Unlike me, he never locks the door, and I put the package on his kitchen table. I wonder if I should write him a note and apologize maybe, but I have no idea what to write. Words are not my forte, neither written nor spoken. So, I just leave it as it is and return to my own work. Tony did most of the planning and scheduling yesterday; now it’s my turn. We’re both more the guys for practical things and outdoor stuff, so we try to divide the bureaucratic and office work between the both of us.

I want to wrap most of it up by the afternoon as we have our appointment with Elodie and Elise to discuss how to help them with their research. With all the drama, I almost forgot that we have stars that keep disappearing.

We wrapped up training a bit later than usual because some of these overconfident idiots thought they were Arnold Schwarzenegger and decided to get into an actual fight to impress one of the female teenagers. I had to put my foot down for once. Henry is better at evoking fear in others and doling out punishments, while I am more approachable and can convince people easier in meetings.

Today, I decided I should maybe be a bit more like Henry, so I had them train for an extra half hour.

“Not bad.” Serenade sounds impressed when we return to the pack house. “They definitely won’t question your authority next time.”

“Yeah, I figure I need to stop relying on Henry in these matters,” I point out. I always tend to let Henry handle these rough situations. Time to step up and support him.

She nods. “You guys alright again?”

“You noticed?”

She smiles a bit. “You’re my friends, probably my closest friends. It was hard not to notice. But don’t worry, I’m sure no one else did.”

I sigh in relief. “Thank Goddess.” I decide not to answer her question, though. I haven’t talked to Henry yet, after all. “What are your plans for today?”

“Going on a date!” She beams.

“Please tell me it’s a guy from a different pack?”

“I’d never bang anyone from here,” she tells me.

I laugh. “Well, have fun then.”

“I will.” She turns to look at me. “Should I wear the red dress, the one I wore for the winter solstice, or the black one from the Christmas party? We are going to a fancy restaurant.”

“Depends,” I muse. “Do you want to finish your food, or do you want him to jump you before you even enter the restaurant?”

“I’m hungry.” She grins. “No way I’m ditching the food!”

“Good choice.” I chuckle. “Take the red dress, then. It looks great on you but isn’t as daring as the other.”

“Awesome, thanks, Tony.” She waves at me. “See you tomorrow.”
