We leave behind one pile of rabbit corpses after another when I feel a gentle tug. I blink. “Did you feel that?”

“Feel what?” Cassiopeia asks.

“Something just tugged at me.”

“One of them.” Cassiopeia glares at the rabbits.

“No… more like inside me,” I mutter.

“I hope none of them is eating their way through you.” She frowns.

Her suggestion makes me want to throw up. I swear, this will haunt me in my dreams for a while.…cel…

“Elise!” I blurt out. “I heard her voice.”

Cassiopeia stares at me in surprise before shifting her gaze back to the rabbits. “Say…” she mutters. “Why are they not attacking?”

“They are attacking!”

“Yes, they are coming closer and jumping at us. They expect a reaction from us, but I don’t even have one scratch.” She pauses.

I look at her in surprise. “You are right. It’s weird.”

Of course, it’s weird. Whatever is happening to you, it’s not real.Elise’s voice reaches me.

“Elise says it isn’t real,” I tell Cassiopeia.

Cassiopeia frowns and, to my shock, tosses her gun to the side before stomping to one of the rabbits. She reaches out her hand. “Bite me, you monster from hell!” The rabbit snarls and bares its teeth but doesn’t latch onto her hand.

Something in front of my eyes flickers a bit, making me shake my head. Everything spins around me before I find myself precisely at the entrance of the basement. The only difference from before is that there are several bullets being stuck in the wall now. Cassiopeia comes to her senses, too, shaking her head slightly as if she needs to get rid of the images.

“Marcel,” Elise says softly.

I raise my hands before she can approach me. “You are real, aren’t you?”

She grins. “Ask your wolf.”

Real as us,he says excitedly.

“Say, man.” Henry and Anthony approach us, too. “What exactly were you two fighting? It looked wild. We didn’t dare to intervene or touch you out of fear of being hurt.”

Cassiopeia and I exchange a gaze. Neither of us needs words to understand. We are taking this secret to our graves! “Monsters,” I say.

“Yeah, they were truly from another world,” Cassiopeia mutters. “So… seeing you here, I assume you weren’t caught in an illusion?”

“Are you kidding?” Henry sighs. “We all were caught in one.”

“Only Elise and Elodie made it out of theirs by themselves,” Tony explains.

“And Arman and Harmony?” Cassiopeia asks in worry.

“They are in the building next to us. Killed some witches, it seems,” Henry explains.

“I can’t believe Alpha Elden and Maahes told us to be cautious, and we all just stepped into their mind games after only five minutes,” I mutter, actually feeling disappointed in myself. A bunch of creepy rabbits attack us, and I didn’t even find it weird.

“I assume Apophis can also toy with our emotions,” Cassiopeia points out. We all remain silent for a while before she clears her throat. “So, what’s next?”

“What’s next?” a snarl can be heard. “It’s about time to get rid of you.”
