Elden smiles. “You did well, both of you.” He pauses. “Anthony, just one piece of advice. I know you don’t want to tell your father what happened, but consider doing it, will you? I know he knows something is off, but as a parent, it’s tearing him apart that he can’t do anything to help you, that he doesn’t even know what’s going on. Please think about it.”

“I will think about it,” I say.

Elden nods before helping us up again. I pull Henry up with me and limp out of the room right after Elden. I’ve been sitting on my feet, and they tickle and burn now.

Once we are in his office, a blond teenage boy awaits us, just like Regis said. It’s one of Elden’s twin sons, the youngest two of his children. Unlike Henry and me, they are fraternal twins, not identical ones. “Felix,” Elden looks at him. “How can I help you?”

“Okay, first of all.” Felix smiles brightly. He is only sixteen, but he is such a sunny guy. Blonde, sun-kissed, athletic. I know the girls are flocking to him like the moths to the light. I’ve heard some of the teenage girls in my pack talk about him. “I did a lot better in the last few tests in school. Remember you were pissed that I slacked off?”

“Yes, I remember,” Elden says, clearly amused, although he tries to hide it. “I was part of that conversation.”

“So, I worked more.”

“Okay.” Elden nods. “That’s commendable.”

I seriously want to jump to Felix’s help. Dad used the same strategy on Henry and me, mostly on me, as I was more into parties than Henry. Now I know he was just teasing me.

Felix doesn’t seem to waver, though. “And I fully understand why you wanted me to focus on school more,” he adds.

Elden clears his throat. “Please, just tell me what you want.”

“There is a beach party on Saturday,” he explains. “It’s a surf event, and I’d like to participate and then join the party.” He pauses, eyeing his father carefully. “You said if I put more effort into school, I could go out again. So?”

I can almost hear a rumble in Elden’s chest. Regis is probably annoyed he lost the bet.

“And… maybe… you know…” Felix stutters. “The taxi costs money…”

At that, Elden can’t keep his cool anymore. He just snorts. “Yes, you did well during the last month,” he says. Felix’s blue eyes widen, and he looks happy. “You stuck to your promise. I’ll stick to mine. You can go, but ask your brother if he wants to join too.”

“Dario isn’t really into partying,” Felix says. “But I will try to lure him along!”

“Good.” Elden nods. “Have fun.”

Felix beams once more. “Thanks, Dad!”

It’s interesting. I don’t remember Elden being so lax when I was younger. He was always supportive of his children, but he wasn’t as relaxed. It’s almost like he tries to encourage his youngest to have a bit of fun and not take everything too seriously.

I don’t know what changed him, but I guess every person changes over the years.

“So,” Henry says once Felix leaves the office. “None of you won the bet?”

“Or both of you did,” I grin.

“Just wait until you have kids.” Elden smirks. “You are laughing now, but believe me, your father and I will get the last laugh.”

Henry and I grin but wisely keep our mouths shut.

“We should probably go and meet the others,” Elden points out. “I bet Elise and Elodie will soon return with Eric. And hopefully, they will have good news.”

“I hope so, too,” I say.

He gets up from his seat. “Then let’s go.”

Before we leave his office, I clear my throat. “Thank you, Uncle Elden,” I say. “Thank you for your help. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without you.”

Elden squeezes my shoulder a bit. “You did very well, Anthony. I’m proud of you, and I think one day you and Henry will be great leaders.”

I smile. His praise makes me happy. It’s one thing if Dad says it, but another if another alpha does. I feel a lot lighter while I follow him and my brother out of the office and back to the others. We didn’t truly change the fate of the world today, but my own world started turning again. I feel much more motivated and full of strength to tackle whatever threat we are facing, and I can’t wait to hold Dalila in my arms again.
