Dad looks at me, and I can swear I see a hint of respect in his eyes. That’s a first. He has always loved us and had our backs, but it’s the first time he looks at me like that.

“It’s a good project,” Henry says.

Mom nods. “Yes, maybe we can do something similar, broaden that project to other areas, like sports programs or even tutor programs.”

“I can talk to the project leader,” I say. “And pitch them the idea.”

“And I will see what the two future lunas think of it when they have recovered,” Mom says with a warm smile towards my mate.

“I, for one, think my two sons found great matches for them,” Dad says.

“Is it bad that I’m so happy with Dalila?” I ask him. “I sometimes still feel guilty of how much I love her and how happy I am, while Corinne was stripped of her life just because a deity was getting bored.”

“It’s not wrong for you to feel happy with your mate,” Mom says gently. “You can mourn your first mate and respect who she was to you and still be happy with your second mate. One doesn’t exclude the other.”

She is right,Lysander tells me.A part of Corinne will stay with us, but it shouldn’t hold us back from being happy with our beautiful goddess.

You are right.I feel relieved. Now that I told it to everyone who matters to me, I feel like I can finally let it go. I will keep Corinne safely in my mind as a memory but allow myself to move on with Dalila.

*DALILA*

I slip in and out of consciousness. When we teleported back to Silverlake, we stayed shortly to recap everything, but Alpha Elden cut the meeting short and sent us all home to get some rest. I already fell asleep on our way back to Emerald Moon, just to wake up shortly when Tony carried me inside. There was a huge fuss once we arrived. Jace basically dragged us to the infirmary, but I fell asleep again.

I don’t know for how long I was out of it, but eventually, I feel myself being carried again. “Where are we going?” I mutter.

“To our suite,” Tony whispers. “Just sleep. The doctor dismissed us and said we can rest at our place.”

I nod, snuggling up against him, a smile curling my lips when I feel him kiss the top of my head. Then I’m back to my deep slumber. I see pictures passing me, times with my mom and grandma, then when I met Tony and finally built friendships of my own.

And then I find myself drifting again. It reminds me of when Nephthys brought me to her, and I wonder if I can do this by myself, too, like the bond between me and Maahes… maybe I can reach out to her.

If I just focus enough

“This is a surprise.” I can hear her voice.

I blink my eyes open, noticing how I’m in the middle of an antique-looking building. Thick bricks protect me from the heat of the sun, while the inside is covered in beautiful tapestries and curtains. I’m so in awe of where I am that I forget why I originally came here.

“I’m here, child.” Nephthys approaches me, pulling me into her arms.

I look up at her. “Did I do it right?” I ask her.

“It was your decision to make,” she tells me with a smile. “And whatever you chose, I would have approved of it. But I can’t deny it made me happy that you accepted the deity side of you.” She nudges her head in the direction of a long corridor. “Come, I have a surprise for you.”

I allow her to take my hand and lead me through the broad corridor. “Is this place real?”

“It is to us deities. It’s where I reside, and where Bastet resides, and our family.”

“And Isis?” I ask curiously.

She laughs and points out of a window towards a palace in the distance. “She is in a whole different league.”

“Right, I forgot.” I chuckle.

“In a way, you are connected to her, too,” Nephthys tells me. “She knows it and approves.” She opens the door to a room, making my eyes fall on Maahes.

“You learn fast, with a little delicate guidance,” he teases.

I frown. “Are you making fun of me?”
