“Awesome.” Henry eyes the man grimly. “It was about time you unleashed your full potential and stopped being scared of your gift. Let’s get down to business.”

“What’s first?” I want to know. “Finding our friends or getting the cultists out of the way?”

“My heart says to free our friends,” Henry pauses. “But my mind tells me to get rid of the threat, though.”

“These are mind games,” I point out. “So, let’s counter it with your brilliance. We’ll go with what your mind tells you.” I turn to the guard again. “Lead me to the other people in this place, to your friends,” I order. “To each and every one of them!”

He smiles brightly. “Of course!”

Mind Games

*ELODIE*

EliseandImakeit to the west entrance without any further problems. There is no one waiting for us, and we easily make our way downstairs as planned to reach one of the lower floors.

Isn’t it weird that it’s so quiet?I link Elise as we step into a circular room.

She looks around, too.Yes, we should totally hear something, anything. I— A rumble goes through the building.Did you hear that?

Yes! I’m not deaf! What the fuck was that?

I take a step further into the room when I can hear a slight cracking sound from beneath my feet. “What was that?” I mutter.

When Elise turns around, another crack can be heard. We both stare at each other before looking down at our feet again. There is a visible crack going through the floor now.

“Elo,” Elise whispers. “Slowly… let’s get out of this room.”

I take a tentative step towards her, but again, we can hear the loud noise of something breaking. When Elise moves, it all happens so fast that I barely have time to react. Tiles start loosening from the ground and falling down one after another. The floor is literally breaking beneath us, pieces dropping down into an endless opening beneath us.

It’s a trap.

“Run!”

Elise doesn’t wait for me to repeat it and starts running towards the door with me hot on her heels. We have almost reached it when the ground breaks fully, sucking us into the black void. Elise screams in shock while I freeze completely. The only thing I manage to do is grab her hand before we drop further down.

I almost expect us to crash on the hard ground, but to my surprise, we land in water. The force of our collision sucks us deep down before we both paddle up again. “What the fuck,” Elise gasps for air and spits out some water.

I cough violently, having swallowed too much water to be able to even form a sentence. My twin, however, grabs a floating plank and tugs at my arm to pull me towards her. She hits my back until I stop coughing. “I swear, I’m so done with this crappy cult,” I huff. “And their deity.”

“Same.” Elise frowns. “And what the fuck is this? Dalila checked all the cameras. How come there wasn’t an underground…” she pauses. “What is this even? A major well?”

“Too big for a well,” I say. “Underground lake, maybe?”

“Man-made, probably.” She frowns. “I bet it’s a trap, which is why Dalila wasn’t able to spot it.”

I nod, my fingers tightening around the plank Elise found. The last thing I want is to drown in this miserable place. “Let’s think this through… can we escape?”

“The walls are very smooth,” Elise mutters. She squeals all of a sudden. “What was that!?”

“What was what?” I ask, appalled.

“I swear something slimy just brushed my feet. You know I hate sticky stuff.” She pauses. “Unless it comes from Marcel.”

“Too much information,” I blurt out.

“Oh, come on, don’t tell me you don’t love Henry’s either.” She wiggles her brows.
