“Only you would be crazy enough to talk about your man’s semen like that.” I frown.

“Henry is good to you, isn’t he?” she asks.

I blink, wondering where her sudden worry comes from. “Yes, he is… and Marcel?”

“He is the best.” She sighs. “With everything happening, we somehow didn’t even talk properly.”

“You are right.” I feel bad instantly. Elise is my best friend and my twin, yet it feels like I neglected her. I didn’t even ask her about Marcel. “I’m sorry, Elise, I was so preoccupied with my own shit and this shit here, I didn’t pay attention to what’s going on in your life.”

She laughs. “I didn’t mean to guilt-trip you. It’s the same for me! And I wanted to talk to you about Henry so much. It seems like you truly tamed him!”

“He didn’t need much taming.”

“He absolutely did!” She grins. “He had a little attitude problem, remember? But you have your way with him.”

“I’m not so different,” I admit. “I have an attitude problem, too. I think we balance each other out. He copes better when I tell him he is being shitty directly instead of beating around the bush. You know me, being tentative isn’t my forte.”

“You should give yourself more credit,” she says. “You are a great match.” She smiles. “And I know you had a little crush on him for quite a while.”

“What about you and Marcel?” I ask to deflect the topic of me crushing on Henry before we found out we are mates.

“You mean aside from him being a sex-god?”

We both giggle.

“He is everything.” Elise looks a bit flustered. “He is so funny and kind, and I just feel butterflies all over.”

“You had a crush on him too,” I say. “Just like I had on Henry.” I shift my gaze a bit, frowning when I see the walls of the well… I could swear they just got more translucent. What’s going on?

Before I can tell Elise, an angry grumble can be heard, and a hiss.

“Did the water just growl?” Elise asks.

I furrow my brows as realization settles in. Apophis, the deity of chaos, the master of illusions. This fucker! But he is playing with the wrong victims.Elise, are you thinking what I am thinking?

That we just totally went into the trap of that asshole, and there is no lake or well or anything here?

I grin.That… and?

Let’s counterattack with an illusion. He doesn’t know our gift. She smirks. What’s the plan?

I tilt my head before briefly telling her my idea through mind link. Illusions are tricky and feeble. They are real as long as someone believes they are, and being their creator gives one some advantages.

Elise and I lean our foreheads against each other, connecting our minds and forming what we deem useful. A huge air bed pops up, and the both of us crawl on top of it. “We should change,” Elise says sweetly.

Again, we repeat our motions, dressing ourselves in bathing suits.

“You know.” I frown. “There isn’t enough light!”

“Absolutely.” She beams. “I want to see the sky.”

I grin when there is another growl coming from the water. What an idiot! Elise and I make the top of the building go away next. “And now something to drink, a piña colada,” I muse.

“And some men!”

“Naked men bringing us the drink and—”

Impertinent disrespectful fools,a voice snarls.
