“They really won’t,” Elise chimes in with a bright grin. “Papa lycan will want to kill someone. Preferably Alpha Shitface.”
Arman nods. “Just watch out for the girls, Prince Finn. I couldn’t do it.”
“You did what you could,” Freya interrupts him. “And that’s more than anyone else did for us.”
“She is right. Hang in there, and don’t do anything rash. Watch out for yourself and keep an eye on the slaves,” I urge. “Colton needs to believe that Freya and Amaryllis ran. We are coming back,” I promise.
Leila nods. “Don’t worry; I have this covered. I may or may not have seen a vision to keep them busy.”
Elise tilts her head. “We might be able to add something to the mix… another illusion.” They do their crazy thing again, holding hands and leaning their foreheads against each other. They look at the corpse of a rogue lying a bit further up the hill.
“Fuck!” Arman curses as he sees the body of the rogue morphing into Marcel.
“Sorry,” Elodie looks at Marcel. “You were the closest to him in body build. It’s easier that way.”
“Don’t worry. That’s amazing,” Marcel exclaims.
“What did you just do?” Leila gasps.
“I created an illusion,” she tells her, nodding at Arman. “Use it wisely.”
He nods as he eyes the rogue, who now looks like Marcel. “How long will it last?”
“A few hours.”
“Perfect. I will tell Colton I killed one of your men, and that the rogues got the rest of you. They will burn the bodies during the next few hours. No one will realize.”
“Tell him Elise and I just dropped off a cliff,” Elodie says. “He thinks girls are weak and useless anyway.”
“Now it’s my turn to do my thing,” I tell them, making them gather around me. Closing my eyes, I focus on my friends, channeling my power before I unleash it, stretching my aura around them and almost sucking them into the whirlwind I created in my mind
I let out a shaky breath. This shit always drains me. Max usually needs to sleep and recharge after we use this gift, but he is still there and looking at me.I’m feeling tired,he mutters. But not as much as usual! Must be our matey’s presence!
“What did you do to us?” Elise asks me curiously. “I could feel a tug inside me.”
“It’s similar to what you did during the fight, right?” Henry asks.
“I covered our scents completely. We are almost invisible now,” I explain.
“I thought your gift was being able to read auras,” Henry says.
“That’s just the first part of it,” I explain. “You need to understand who someone is to manipulate their auras.” I shake my head. “But we have no time for this. We need to go. Now.”
Arman and I exchange one last look of understanding before my group starts moving again.
*FREYA*
I can feel it. We are close to finally being free. I was right to trust my mate; he protected and helped me, and I feel so comfortable and safe in his presence. The walk from here on will be more difficult, as one of the guy twins is wounded and can only walk slowly. The man named Marcel, and the other twin are supporting him. I should feel more out of place than I do, but all of them have been so nice to me that I can’t help but feel like I belong.
My gaze shifts towards Amaryllis, still in her mate’s arms, as he continues to carry her through the snow. The last few months have really weakened her, and I’m glad she can finally get away from here. Steve, her mate, seems like such a sweet guy…a gentle giant.
Finn is checking over his wounded friend when he pauses for another break. “Hold on, Anthony,” he mutters, clearly worried.
“We have to get him away from here,” Anthony’s twin brother urges. “It’s cold, and he is losing blood and getting weaker.”
“He is right,” one of the twin girls has also been checking on Anthony. She seems to be very knowledgeable about these kinds of things. “The bullet is deep inside him. We need to get it out of his body, but not here.”
“Don’t worry,” Anthony presses out between clenched teeth. Sweat is forming on his forehead. “I’m alright.”
