“Arman said the cave would be a safe place to rest,” I carefully intervene, unsure if they even want to hear my opinion. I’m not shy normally, but this is way out of my comfort zone. They just said that my mate is a lycan prince and I’m just… Freya.
“Freya is right.” Finn flashes me a warm smile, making me relax instantly. “Let’s make sure we reach the cave before sunset.” I love how earnest and confident he is without pushing anyone around. He seems so respectful. Frankly, I haven’t seen this in many men until now. Most of the guys in Blood Snow are the exact opposite, aside from Arman.
But Finn is better than even Arman, a lot better. And his wolf is massive. When he shifted, I was speechless for a moment. I have never seen a wolf his size.
My positive thoughts allow me to let my guard down, and I walk closer to Finn to stand near him, smiling when he puts an arm around my shoulder and pulls me close. Thank the Goddess, Benjamin was never truly meant to be my mate. The Goddess just tested him or maybe wanted to prove something to him, but certainly, she didn’t want me to end up with him.
Goodness, Finn is so handsome. I want to run my fingers over his abs and his biceps. And those tattoos, I can’t wait to check out each of them when I finally get a closer look at his body. He puts the other warriors of Blood Snow, including Alpha Asshole and his stupid son, to shame. I’m embarrassed to admit I couldn’t help but blatantly stare at him when he shifted back to human form.
You like his dingdong more than those of the warriors?Sereia teases mercilessly.
I flush.Oh, shut up.
“You think you can hold on until we reach this cave?” Anthony’s twin asks softly and pulls me out of my thoughts.
“Sure,” Anthony chuckles, but I can see him wince in pain when he does so. “I’m an alpha by blood. My body can deal with silver far longer than other wolves.”
“Then let’s get going,” Finn orders. “We can’t waste any more time. Blood Snow is probably still fending off the attack, and Arman and Leila promised to cover for us.” He takes a bottle out of his bag, shaking it slightly before spreading its contents around us. “I’ll make sure to cover our scents further.”
“We’ll walk one after the other so as not to leave too many traces,” he further commands. “Marcel, you go first, Elise right after you, then Henry with Anthony.” They all nod. “Steve with Amaryllis. Then Freya and I.” He turns to the other twin girl. “Elodie?”
“I’m not the best tracker,” she admits. “But I’m good enough to cover our tracks.”
With that, it’s settled, and the guys grab the bags again before we continue down the long path away from the forest toward the cliff. Finn holds my hand the whole time; it feels warm and strong, and I love feeling him so close to me.
When we finally reach the borders of the pack lands, I feel something in me tug and pull. I blink in confusion. “I feel weird,” I tell the others carefully. “Like something in me is about to snap.”
“Same for me,” Ryllis whispers.
“We’ve reached your pack borders,” Finn explains. “You can cut the ties to your pack here if you want to. I’ve manipulated our presence and aura. If you denounce the pack, it will feel to Colton as if you died, not like you betrayed him. But that’s only if you want to. If not—”
“Absolutely yes!” I exclaim. “How do I get rid of this stinkin’ bond to my pack?”
Finn grins while some of the others laugh. “You just need to renounce it officially, that’s all.”
“Won’t I be a rogue then?”
“No,” he smiles. “You’re with me, and I accepted you as my mate. My pack will welcome you like Steve’s will welcome Amaryllis.”
I blink. “Wait, you’re not from the same pack?”
“No, I told you there is a long story to tell.”
Alright, I need to know more about him soon. I don’t get any weird vibes from him, so I assume he and his friends had a valid reason to come to Blood Snow. First things first, though, I do as Finn told me. I only share a short gaze with Ryllis, and she nods instantly.
“I, Freya, denounce Blood Snow as my pack.”
I feel something snap inside me, my blood rushing in my veins. I hear Amaryllis saying the same words, but other than that; I hear nothing…until finally…peace settles in…and…
I take a deep breath, almost bursting into tears.
I’m free!
I’m free!
