“I know. I’m going to ask him.”

“Call me after. I need to make sure he didn’t go off on you.”

“He’s not going to go off.”

“Don’t do that.”

“Do what?”

“Put nothing past these men. You have been knowing him for a total of two whole seconds. You don’t know this man.”

“You’re right but Lord is different.”

Iwas surprised that I made back to the loft before Lord did. I was strange and I couldn’t do much but pace back and forth. I wasn’t afraid but I was a little anxious. I had already called Khia and told her I was here. I had to tell her Lord wasn’t here and she didn’t like that.

I didn’t have any reason not to trust Lord. He was open with everything. He left his cell phone out in the open. He left his laptop screen open for me to see. He didn’t take calls in private. Plus there was absolutely no evidence that a woman lived here before. Everything in his place was masculine until I started leaving my things over here, which he encouraged.

To say Lord was perfect was just dumb. He had to have some red flags but I just didn’t see them. I thought about starting an argument just to see how he would react but I was that type of woman. That behavior was silly. I didn’t make problems where they didn’t exist.

I was sitting on the couch watching TV when Lord came into the living room. I leapt to my feet to greet him and take his briefcase from his shoulder. I offered him a kiss like I always did. I placed his big on the table behind the couch.

“How was your day off?” Lord asked.

“It was fine. I went to visit my sister.”

“How is Khia?”

“She’s fine.”

Lord looked down at the mail that was on the table. He flipped through the envelopes and placed them back down.

“I hadn’t heard from you all day. I wasn’t sure if I should stay over or go home.”

“You should always stay.” His forehead wrinkled.

“I wanted to talk to you.”

“Is this something serious?”

“No. I wouldn’t say that.”

“Fuck! Was it Nicco? You don’t like him, right? He was too much.”

“No, no, he was fine.”

“What is it then?” Lord walked up and invaded my space. He was close to me. I took a step back. I didn’t fear him, but I didn’t know how he was going to take my question.

“This morning, I woke up, and you were gone.” I knew I was sounding like a whole needy, clingy ass chick, but I was trying to keep it real.

“Yeah, I’m sorry about that. Something important came up at the office and had to shower and rush out of here quickly.”

“Okay, but you didn’t call. Or say anything.”

“I didn’t?”

Was he asking me? Sir, you bounced and didn’t say a word. “No.”
