“Oh, so you that sure?”

“Yeah, he doesn’t give me any reason to think he’s a player or seeing other women.”

“That’s good to know. Tell me his red flags and don’t try to act like he don’t got none. He got to have something wrong with him.”

“I wouldn’t call it red flags but he doesn’t express hisself a lot. He’s quiet a lot and I just think that’s because he doesn’t have a mother and father.”

“Excuse me, we don’t have a mother and father either.”

“No, but we did. He was raised by his grandmother.”

“Have you met grandma? Does she really exist?”

“I haven’t met her, but I did talk to her on the phone.”

Khia rolled her eyes at me. “Okay, that’s something.”

“Today something happened and I don’t know how I should feel about it.”

“I don’t like the sound of that.”

“I woke up this morning and Lord was gone to work. He didn’t wake me up. He didn’t say goodbye. Which is weird for him?”

“Okay.”

“I went downstairs to the kitchen to make some coffee and there was a gun on the kitchen table.”

“What?”

“It kind of freaked me out. It was just sitting there for no reason. It wasn’t there yesterday. Like, where did it come from?”

“You don’t know if he has guns in his house.”

“I don’t know. It never came up. He never mentioned it. I’ve never seen any guns.”

“Do you think he was trying to sneak threatened you?”

“I don’t know. What do you think?”

“I don’t know. He has never shown me any signs of being violent or manipulative or narcissistic. That’s what makes me so confused. Like, did he just leave it there and forget about it? Okay, fine, but why did he have it in the first place?”

“Why don’t you just ask him?”

“I don’t know if feels weird. Do you think I should ask him?”

“Ah yeah, are you afraid to ask him?”

“I don’t think so. It’s just I don’t even know what to ask him.”

“Open yo’ damn mouth and say excuse me, sir. Who gun is this? Why you got a goddamn gun on the kitchen table?”

“I’m not going to say it like that.”

“I hope you not code switching around this man.”

“No, I’m not code switching with. I’m my regular cute self.”

“Oh okay.” She rolled her eyes. “Seriously, you need to know why he left a gun on the kitchen table.”
