“Nothing. Did you tell him?”

Lane spoke up, “Yes, he told me.”

The tension melted from her face as she smiled up at them. “Good... And?”

“It’s fine. I’m fine with it. What about Destiny?”

“She’s fine with it too. I explained to her what happened with the extra guests coming for the wedding and she understood completely.”

Lane nodded. “Are you going to let us in or just stand there and block the door?”

“Of course!” She laughed, stepping aside for them to enter.

Lane looked around the room and noticed the doorway was slid open to the main stairway.

He jerked his chin towards it. “Is she up there?”

“No, she left out the back to collect her things from the inn.”

Lane nodded. He still had to do the same thing and bring the dogs.

“You haven’t seen it since we put all the furniture out. Head on up. Mark and I will join you shortly. I just need him to look at the... uh, sink, it’s leaking... C’mon Mark.” She grabbed his arm and dragged him off to the kitchen.

Lane shook his head as he headed to the stairs, something was off with her.

Mark pulled up his sleeves as they entered the kitchen and went straight to the sink. Opening the cupboard doors under it, he sat on the floor and was about to lay down on his back when Ava cried out, “What are you doing?!”

He shrugged, “Looking at the sink?”

“Why?!”

His eyes grew large. “Becaaaause, you said it was leaking?”

“I just said that!” Ava pulled out a chair and sat down with a thud. “I don’t think Lane and Desi are going to get along. I’m sure of it.”

“What makes you say that?”

“The way they both act whenever you say either of their names in front of the other.”

“So?” Mark got up from the floor and sat in a chair beside her. “It’s only short term, right? As soon as the wedding is over Lane is leaving for Sweden or Switzerland, I can’t remember.”

“But I want them to get along. Don’t you see? I don’t want my brother moving across the world...”

Mark put an arm around her shoulders. “Ava, that’s not for you to decide. You can’t play matchmaker in hopes that he falls in love with her or anyone else for that matter just so he stays in Canada.”

“I wasn’t playing anything. I just hoped with a little bit of distance they could get to like each other eventually... Now we’ll be lucky if they don’t kill one another.”

“I’m sure it’ll be fine.” He stood and pulled on her chair. “Come on, let’s see what he thinks of the place. He was really impressed with the pool and hot tub.”

Pasting a smile on her face, she stood and took the hand he offered as he led her to the back staircase.

DESI WAS ALMOST TOthe inn and still couldn’t believe her good fortune, she was happy to move into the spa, but now, she was ecstatic. With a little luck and some good cooking, she might be able to convince Lane to help her in her search for Nala and she would be able to pay him to boot! As soon as she got the chance to cash the cheque. She would do that later tonight once she had everything moved in at the spa. Not that she had a lot.

She was just turning onto the lake road when she saw Abbi at the bottom coming up, waving at her.

“Hey Destiny! That hill is something else,” Abbi said, stopping to catch her breath. “How’s your day going?”
