I have very little time left to find out who killed Brian, and then I need to get us out for good.
I’m ready to move on and start my life with Landyn.

“Mr. and Mrs. Torres, welcome home.”
I nod to June as Spencer carries our suitcases upstairs and lie, “It’s good to be back.”
Landyn smiles at June and Miranda who greet us inside the front door. I shouldn’t be surprised when the first thing out of her mouth is about her new BFF. “Is Rocco home?”
“He is,” June says. “He’s in the living room working on courses Mr. Torres left for him.”
Landyn squeezes my hand. “He took the GED yesterday. What else does he have to work on?”
“He’s taking online accounting classes.” What I hope she realizes is that the classes are more to keep him out of trouble. If they stick, that’ll be better than running drugs for a club.
She wrinkles her nose. “That sounds torturous. I think I’ll say hello and rescue him from numbers and columns and formulas.”
I pull her to me and kiss the side of her head. “You do that.”
“I assume it will just be the three of you for dinner tonight?” June asks.
Landyn turns to look at me with a raised brow. So far, she’s cool and calm. I knew she could handle this. As much as it would’ve killed me, I never would have brought her here had I thought she’d put either of us in danger.
She sat in my lap for the second half of the flight while we talked about details for the next two days. My goal is to keep our heads down, not meet with anyone in person, and take care of shit over the phone. Phone calls mean wiretaps and those can’t be argued with in court.
I lift my chin and confirm, “Just the three of us.”
Landyn has fallen back into our roles without a hitch. Her bright smile hits all of us. “Our happy little family.”
I shake my head and watch her move through the long halls when Spencer meets me at the bottom of the steps. “Sir, we had a development while you were gone.”
I freeze. “A development?”
He looks around. Other than Landyn and Rocco talking up a storm from across the house, there’s no one but us.
“What is it?” I press.
“Sir, we found Nic Decker.”
All of a sudden, my fingers are itchy. “Really.”
“Yes. He’s in the garage. He’s been there since yesterday.”
“Who knows that he’s here?” I demand.
“Myself and the two guards who found him.”
“Not Rocco?”
He shakes his head. “No, sir. The boy doesn’t need to be tied up in that.”
“No, he doesn’t.” I look back toward the family room. “I’ll let Landyn know that I’m not far. Don’t take your eyes off her or let her look for me.”
