“Get out.”

A menacing growl ripped my throat as I watched him scamper out. I turned to her. Her lips tilted in irritation.

Was this the important task she’d left my office for? To speak with some guy?

She was into blondes now?

“What was that?” Her sharp voice broke the silence.

“That,” I growled, stalking towards her. “Was inappropriate.”

“You cannot be found with some other guy—”

“Coworker,” she interjected harshly. “And I can do whatever the fuck I want.”

“We’re engaged,” I spat.

“It’s fake,” she sneered. Her breathing was erratic. “And the rules don’t-”

“Fuck the rules. What’s mine is mine. Fake or not.”

In a flash, I reached her side. Tugged her waist. And pressed my lips against hers.

All my anger melted away as I felt her instantly melt into the kiss. My tongue parted her lips. And my hands moved to cup her ass.

Her small moan was music to my ears. I moved the other hand to cup her warm cheeks as I nibbled her lips in bits.

Fuck. She tasted even better.

I groaned, pressing myself into her. My hands now trailed the length of her thighs. But just as my thumb brushed her soaked panties, she stiffened.

And pulled back.

Her nostrils flared before her hand came down hard on my cheek.

Chapter Seventeen

Renee

“You did what?!”

I messed up.

Maybe because I wasn’t thinking. Or I just was thinking too much.

“It was…a reflex.”

“Renee Victoria Walker! You slapped the most successful billionaire in the city!”

I’d just narrated everything to Sierra. The shenanigans at the party I’d left out. The one at his office. The failed surprise. And lastly, the events of yesterday.

“It sounds bad when you put it like that,” I mumbled into the phone.

I had instantly regretted my decision once I realized what I’d done. The few minutes of silence that came after was unnerving. I wanted to disappear from the surface of the earth never to be seen again.

But it all came to an end when he walked out. That was it.

No words. No actions. Just a plain blank stare before he dropped the solved Rubik’s cube. Then out.
