What had I expected anyway? I should be grateful he said nothing.

But it wasn’t that bad right? Sierra was just being dramatic.

And he really deserved it.

“What happened after?” She quirked.

“Nothing. The car ride back home was silent.”

It was. I was left with my confusion and he, whatever he felt.

Only this morning had Fred come to inform me about a dinner. He came with a box, which I hadn’t yet opened. Saying it was from Mr. Knight.

“Of course it was,” her snort pulled me back to reality. “Now you’re attending a dinner with him.”

“Yes.”

“How do you feel?”

“Confused,” I answered almost immediately.

I didn’t need time to answer. I didn’t need a split second. It’s how I’ve felt since the failed surprise.

No. It’s how I’ve felt since the proposal for the date.

“You seem so sure.”

I angled the phone on one of my pillows. “Yes, Sierra.”

She hummed, raising a brow. “Confused or in denial.”

My heart raced. And chills pricked my skin.

“W-what?”

“Hey. I’m just saying,” she raised her hands in surrender. “Now why don’t you check the box your boss delivered?”

She had a knowing smile and I briefly wondered why. Choosing not to dwell on it, I moved the box from the vanity to the bed. It was a medium-sized white box.

Just like how Fred had delivered it to me the morning of the Annual Conference.

Except this had a white bow on it.

“I can’t see,” Sierra’s yell cut through my thoughts. “Raise the phone a little higher.”

I rolled my eyes. Then placed the phone on a pillow.

Moving my eyes to the box, I opened it.

My breath caught in my throat when I took in the dress. It was folded and only the top half was on display. But it was enough to put me in a daze.

The bodice of the dress was a corset. White and sleeveless. With tiny stones that glittered under the chandelier.

When I pulled the whole dress out I was stunned. The rest of the dress was fitted. It was the same colour as the bodice but the stones were more. Forming v-shaped patterns from the centre of the dress to just below the corset.

“There’s more.”

I whipped my head back to the box to find a pair of off-white heels. And a matching clutch purse.
