“Santorini.”
Oh. I furrowed my brows. I didn’t know what I had expected. Paris, perhaps?
“Not Paris?”
“Not Paris,” she replied almost immediately.
“Then white must be your favourite colour?”
“Yes.”
Lucky guess. “I-”
“I have other tasks undone. If that’s all sir, I’d like to take my leave.”
She rose steadily. Eyes anywhere but on mine.
I thought we were heading somewhere.
I sighed. “You can return to your duties.”
Immediately, a stiff back came into view as she calculatedly walked away. Just before she reached the door, she stopped. And turned.
“The deal, Mr. Knight. The reason for this facade. Is it signed yet?”
Disappointment bit through my skin at her words.
“No.” She knew his condition.
“Unfortunately, Mr. Reynold’s arrest resulted in severe heart damage and neurological complications. He would be hospitalized until further notice.”
With a single nod, she left. Leaving me to the dreary confines of the office.
I stared blankly at my laptop’s screen. Watching my mail slowly pop with notifications.
Since she wanted to leave so damn fast, she could handle them. They were business emails anyway.
I moved to pick some files when I spotted something. On the side of the table, she’d just left.
It was a Rubik’s cube.
Raising a brow, I stared at its scrambled form. Couldn’t she fix it?
I grabbed it. Studied its pieces. Then started.
After a few minutes, I was done. And I found myself heading to her office.
On reaching her door, I opened it and anger instantly filled me.
What was he doing here? On my floor?
Both of their eyes widened as they took in my presence.
He jumped from his position opposite her desk.
“S-sir,” he stuttered. He was blonde. Blue eyes, average height. And I wanted to break every bone in his body.
“M-my name i- is Jack B-Brown. I’m a para–”
