It was all silent. Uncomfortably so as I felt all eyes on me. Okay, maybe not all.
Safe for the one man staring at me like I belonged on Venus, the rest kept throwing glances at their wristwatch.
Shit. Time. I had almost forgotten the concept existed.
Finally, they all alighted on the eighth floor. And I was left to my serenity. Which lasted less than ten seconds.
The elevator opened on my floor and I hurriedly made my way out.
He had a meeting… the douche face asshole called my boss. But thankfully, it started in an hour.
I wasn’t late. In fact, I was fifteen minutes earlier than my resumption time. But something told me that man was looking for the slightest of my mistakes.
And I wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction. Which was why, even without his help, I’d bring Mae’s case to an end.
I let out a long sigh when I finally reached my office. I liked to think of Mae just like me. Perhaps my sister in an alternate universe.
Our similar backgrounds, the determination to succeed even without anyone. I had never met someone I related to so well.
I’d never met someone I wanted to help so much. I-
The sharp tone of the telephone dragged my angry gaze to it. I knew who it was instantly. Begrudgingly, I brought the phone to my ear.
“My office, now.” As expected, he ended the call almost immediately.
Grumpy, arrogant, heartless, and lacked manners. The list just kept getting worse.
Releasing an annoyed breath, I flattened invincible creases off my skirt, adjusted my flowery blouse professionally and headed to the monster’s turf.
“Good morning sir,” I nodded curtly at his seated frame.
“The meeting with Ms. Blackwood starts in forty-five minutes.”
Yeah, so?
Without sparing me a glance, he continued. “I do not like to keep my clients waiting.”
Okay...
When my confused stare met his blank one, he sighed annoyingly. “Your job as an assistant includes welcoming clients. So do your job.”
Angling my face at his frame, I restrained the scoff on the edge of my lips. I knew my job as an assistant very well. Heck, I had even read a whole handbook on assistant duties.
I didn’t need him to teach me.
I knew what he meant. I knew he wanted me to wait in the waiting room until the client arrived. But it was still forty goddamn minutes till she arrived.
Of course, he knew the game he was playing. But I was no loser.
“Alright, sir. I will get the required files and head there right away.”
His blank stare remained unwavering until he waved dismissively. With a curt bow, I returned to my office.
I already had the documents ready for today so it was easy to locate them on the shelf. After retrieving them I set for the waiting room.
Ms. Blackwood wanted to sell her company. Her high-value company. It seemed weird to me that she suddenly wanted to make such a decision.
Especially when there were no records of financial distress.
