It didn’t seem like her company would nose-dive anytime soon. Nor did it seem like she had any legal issues. So I wondered why.
In no time, I reached the waiting room on the first floor. As usual, everywhere was starting to get a little rowdy. People from all departments had pressing issues to attend to.
Ignoring the distant buzzing of their voices, I entered the waiting room.
The bold statement of the plaque welcomed me.Blanchard Legal.
After waiting a few minutes, I spotted her through the glass doors. Immediately, I rushed to welcome her.
“Welcome to Blanchard Legal. I am Renee Walker, Mr. Knight’s assistant. I will lead you to him now.”
“Thank you, Renee,” She smiled, and I was almost dazed by the warmth in it.
She looked to be in her mid-forties. The few wrinkles on her face did nothing to hide her beauty though. Somehow the warmth from her smile shone in her eyes and every other part of her skinny form.
With a curt hand gesture, I nodded. “This way, please.”
We reached the conference hall after a few moments of listening to her soft hum as she walked. And there he was. Broad shoulders, long legs, and a disposition even elegance would bow to.
“Ms. Blackwood, it’s a pleasure to see you again,” he nodded with a handshake.
After the necessary formalities, we both took our seats and the meeting began. Then, I set my plan in motion.
What plan, you ask?
Well, my plan of getting back at him for making me wait. He didn’t think I’d oblige with no consequences, right?
“The file,” he paused midway through the conversation to stare at me. Tugging my eyes from the note I’d been jotting, I nodded.
I moved to grant his request when the file accidentally slipped from my hands. Keyword accidentally. The documents landed on his thighs messily.
I knew the silly mistake would tick him off.
Pretending not to hear Ms. Blackwood’s little chuckle, I whispered. “I’m sorry, sir.”
I could feel his hot gaze boring holes into my head as I picked the documents. And when I raised my head to place the files on the desk, I caught his death glare.
Trying not to think about the consequences, I continued jotting as they carried on with the meeting. At least I had made Ms. Blackwood laugh.
The meeting finally came to an end. Sadly, Ms. Blackwood wanted to wrap up everything with the sale in two weeks.
Once Ms. Blackwood was out the door, I fled. Walking faster than my legs could carry me.
Before I made it to the elevator, his voice reached me. “Where do you think you’re going?”
Uh.. away from you.
Without any response, I hurriedly stepped in. Pushing on the buttons to close the door. Just before it closed, his hands came into view.
Then his whole body followed.
Shit.
He stalked angrily towards me until my back hit the corner.
Shit, shit.
“What was that?’
