“She’s asleep upstairs,” she whispers into my chest as I plant a kiss on the top of her head. I lead her onto the lounge where I can close the door and talk to her without waking Luna. Sitting on the sofa, Chelsea instantly sits on my lap and curls up small against my chest. For the strong, independent woman who usually gives me hell for wanting to do stuff for her, she is acting the complete opposite now, and it worries me.
“Talk to me, baby. What’s the matter?” I ask, running my hand up and down her back as I kiss the top of her head.
“We had a bit of a scary night. I thought I heard a noise like something banging against my window. Then Luna woke up screaming, saying someone was trying to get in her window.”
“What? Did you see anyone?” I ask, leaning to the side so I can look at her. Chelsea shakes her head and closes her eyes.
“Nothing, but after those two incidents, I couldn’t settle. I was awake until the sun came up so I called us both in sick and we have slept on and off all morning,” she explains and I kiss the top of her head.
“Were there any more noises after Luna thought someone had tried to enter her window?”
Chelsea shakes her head and lets out a deep sigh.
“Maybe I’m just being paranoid. It wouldn’t be the first time.”
I hold her tighter for a moment, letting her know I’m here now and she isn’t alone anymore.
“Why didn’t you call one of us?” I ask, running a hand up and down her thigh.
“You were hundreds of miles away I didn’t see the point in worrying you, especially when you couldn’t do anything about it.”
I let out a deep breath whilst shaking my head.
“Baby, we own a huge security business. We have people on standby at all hours of the day and night in case any of our clients get concerned about someone being outside their homes. We could have gotten someone here in less than ten minutes checking the area out to put you at ease.” I explain.
“I didn’t want to be a nuisance, plus I was probably just being paranoid, though. Luna probably dreamt it and.”
I place my finger against her lips to stop her.
“I don’t care; if you or Luna are scared, call us. Your safety matters to us more than anyone else. If we can’t be here ourselves, we will get one of our people here; nothing matters as much as you two.”
I lift Chelsea's head so I can press a kiss to her lips.
“Where is Luna now?”
“In my bed. She wanted us to lock ourselves in last night, so I did. I wouldn’t have left the room when you knocked if I hadn’t seen your car.”
“Then go and get some more sleep with Luna. I’m going to have a look around and then call the guys to ask them to bring me an overnight bag. I desperately need a shower as I probably stink.”
“You are a little ripe,” Chelsea teases before squealing as I tickle her.
“So would you if you had to live the way I have for the last five days,” I chuckle as she wiggles on my lap.
“You can use the main bathroom, that way you won’t wake Luna,” she smiles up at me. “She will be happy to see you. She’s missed you all.”
I kiss her on the lips again as my heart skips a beat.
“We’ve missed her too. We picked her up a few things we thought she would like. I know the guys want to give them to her tonight when they are free.”
“Big family dinner tonight then?” Chelsea asks as I grin happily.
“Sounds perfect.” I press a kiss to her lips one last time before helping her to her feet. “Go and lie down, I’ll have a look around and then have a shower before making you both lunch. The guys will also want to know you are okay so I will call them whilst outside.”
“Sorry for worrying you,” Chelsea whispers as I guide her towards the stairs.
“Don’t apologise, just let us help you. You aren’t on your own anymore. Okay?”
She nods, offering me a small smile before walking up the stairs.
