“Well?” I asked him. “You’ve had a few days to think about it. What have you decided?”
He took a deep breath. “My priority will always be Izzy’s happiness, but I suppose I don’t have any objection to gaining a brother.”
I grinned, barely able to contain my happiness. “Does this mean I have your approval to keep seeing Izzy?”
“Not that you actually needed it, but if that’s what you guys think makes you happy, I won’t stand in the way,” he said.
“It has made both of us very happy,” I nodded. “Thank you for understanding.”
“I will tell you this, if you hurt her in any way, shape or form, I won’t be nice about it,” he warned. “Do not do to her what you’ve done to other women.”
“I wouldn’t dream of it,” I said. “I couldn’t if I wanted to. I know this is hard for you to believe, but she’s the one. I think I’ve always known it. I didn’t know how to go about it, but I know now. She’s beautiful and smart and funny. When she was with Patrick, I stayed away. I didn’t want to get in the way of her happiness, but I know he wasn’t the man for her.”
“I knew that as well,” Ramsey agreed. “I just wasn’t sure you were the man.”
“I am,” I told him confidently. “I know I am.”
Ramsey nodded, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. “I can see it in your eyes. You really love her, don’t you?”
“I do,” I replied, my heart swelling with emotion. “I love her more than anything in this world. I would do anything for her.”
“I believe you,” Ramsey said, his tone softening. “But you have to understand, she’s my sister. I’m always going to be protective of her. I want what’s best for her.”
“I know,” I agreed. “And I want the same thing. I know I’ve made mistakes in the past, but I promise to do better. I’ll treat her with the respect and love she deserves.”
Ramsey nodded again, satisfied with my words. “Good. Then we’re on the same page. Just remember, if anything happens to her, I won’t hesitate to come after you.”
I nodded, understanding the gravity of his warning. I knew I had to be careful not to hurt her, not just for her sake, but also for my own safety. But I wasn’t worried. I was willing to do whatever it took to make her happy.
“Hey,” Ramsey called out just as I was leaving his office. I couldn’t wait to get to the lab and tell Izzy the news.
“Yeah?”
“Let’s go grab lunch,” he said. “I need a break after that.”
“Okay. Izzy?”
“Don’t tell her anything.” He grinned. “Just tell her I’d like to have lunch and talk.”
“You’re cruel.” I laughed.
“She’s my little sister, I get to tease her a little.”
We went to a local restaurant and sat down with Izzy sitting beside me. I felt bad for making her stress out. She was nervous as hell.
“Okay,” Ramsey said.
Izzy looked confused. “What?”
“Okay,” he said again. “You and Cam are happy. I support that. I want you both to be happy. Besides Lily, you are the two most important people in the world to me. I don’t want to lose you.”
I felt Izzy’s relief. “Really?” she whispered.
“Really.” Ramsey nodded. “But please, don’t lie to me again.”
“We won’t,” I said. “I’ve learned a lesson. We’ll be honest with you.”
“And I’ve already warned Cam I will kick his ass if he screws this up,” Ramsey said sternly.
