“What was last night all about? Was I just another piece of ass for you or did it mean something?”
“Now that you ask, it was just a piece of ass. It was our first date. You can’t expect me to say that I have any kind of strong feelings for you.”
Clara growled in the back of her throat.
Stop, Clara, she ordered herself.Just take it a day at a time and see where the relationship goes. There is no need to rush it or put a label on it or the sex. Just enjoy it for what it was.
She had wanted to tell him that she had never done anything like that before, but she was sure that she didn’t have to. If he was perceptive at all, he would know that she didn’t sleep around. To be honest, she really didn’t have anything to feel self-conscious about. They were two consenting adults who were attracted to each other.
Clara put her hands up on her head and closed her eyes.
Dillon knows that you are a good woman. He wouldn’t be with you otherwise. Stop worrying.
Taking a deep breath, Clara forced herself to stop second guessing herself. What was done was done.
Clara had to admit that the sex was incredible. John had never cared to make sure that she felt good. She couldn’t remember him ever taking the time to touch her gently and to make her heated enough to ache for his touch.
She was a little sore this morning, but it was a good feeling. In spite of her fears and misgivings, she wondered if he would ask her out on another date and if so, how it would turn out. She was pretty sure that if the opportunity came up again and Dillon looked at her with the same hunger in his eyes and kissed her with the same passion that she would tumble right back into his bed without a second thought.
Sighing heavily, Clara admitted that it had been more than just sex to her. It really was more like making love. Although she hadn’t known Dillon for very long, she was starting to feel something for him. She wasn’t ready to put a label on it, but there was no denying how her heart beat faster every time she was in the same room as he was.
Jamie made herself a mocha and looked at Clara with a smile.
“How did your date go last night?” she asked.
“It went very well. We went to a Japanese restaurant. The food was delicious. The atmosphere was nice. We talked mostly about our childhoods,” Clara said.
“What did you do after dinner?” Jamie asked.
“We went back to his place,” Clara said, the color creeping into her face.
“Ah, I see. How did that go?”
Clara realized that Jamie seemed to automatically know that the two of them had sex.
“It was incredible,” Clara said, deciding to be honest about it.
“How do you feel about it this morning?” Jamie asked.
Clara hesitated and said, “I really don’t know. I think that I’m starting to have feelings for him and last night, it was more than just sex to me. I’m afraid of getting hurt again, though.”
“I understand that,” Jamie said. “I know that Dillon isn’t the kind of guy who would hurt you intentionally.”
“I don’t think that he would. I figure that I will just take things one day at a time and not read more into a situation than is really there,” Clara said.
Jamie replied, “That sounds like good advice.”
The bell on the door sounded and Jamie said in a hushed tone, “Speak of the devil.”
Dillon smiled and said, “Good afternoon, ladies.”
He winked at Clara and said, “I had a late night last night and was needing some caffeine to keep me going.”
“One coffee coming up,” Jamie said.
The air was still and Clara found it hard to breathe. Her heart was beating a million miles an hour. She felt like she should say something but couldn’t find the words.
Then, Dillon smiled at her, and all the awkwardness seemed to fade away.
