He liked the idea of introducing her to them.

Rubbing a spot on his chest that suddenly seemed to ache, he asked, “You do?”

“Sure. They’re Sawyer’s family, too. It’s important that I know who’s going to be around him.”

Of course. It had nothing to do with her wanting to know about him.

“Right. Well, they’re boisterous, but every one of them would give you the shirt off his back.”

“Or drive you to the hospital when you’re in labor and hold your hand while you gave birth,” she mused.

“That, too.”

He clicked the garage door opener and waited for the door to go up.

“So, how did your boyfriend take the news?”

“What news?”

“That you’re moving in with me.”

“Oh, um, he—he’s not happy, obviously. But he said he’ll wait for me.”

Maverick snorted. “He’s going to be waiting a long time.”

They pulled into one of the empty stalls, and he was more convinced than ever that she was lying. If he were her boyfriend, it’d take an army to stop him from thwarting her moving in with another man. He also wouldn’t have gone skiing so close to her due date.

Hell, if this guy was real, Maverick had done her a favor.

Shutting off the vehicle, he took a deep breath. This is it.He hoped she liked his place. He’d had it professionally redecorated once the boys hit their late teens and he could have nice things again. Still, he knew the décor was more on the masculine side.

“You have carte blanche on almost anything you want to redecorate or change.”

“Almostanything?”

Maverick grinned, “I’ll have to overrule you if you want to make changes to my car garage.”

She gestured to the shiny black Ford F150 and the slate grey Porsche 911 he’d pulled between.

“You have more cars than this?”

He noticed her surveying the four-stall garage. Everything was neat and orderly, just how he liked it.

“A few.”

“Well, if the outside andthisgarage are any indication, I’m sure the inside is lovely.”

“There’s a difference between lovely and homey. I want you to feel at home.”

“Pete—”

He didn’t like how she said his name and opened the driver’s door without letting her finish her thought.

“Let me show you inside.”

She slipped out the passenger side and had opened the back door before he was able to come around.

“When did you have time to get a car seat, by the way?”
