“Meow.”
She’s at my place.
She went to my place.
Praise fucking Jesus.
I up my speed to the illegal limit and race into the parking garage of the building I’ve laid low in for all these years.
I got this place as a fucking joke. To act like a poor piece of shit just to see how Winchester would treat me outside our shadowed walls.
I never would have thought Andrews would be my neighbor or that we’d have so much in common. That she’d one day have enough of this shit show, give me her keys, and walk out of my life and this small town for five-plus years.
I never thought I’d develop feelings for her so quickly.
“Fuck,” I curse as my heart skips a few beats when I’m in the elevator.
Kenzie leaving doesn’t scare me.
Maybe because I know I can follow her anywhere.
What frightens me is exactly that—that I’ve fallen so hard and fast for this woman in a few short days that I’d let go of even hockey to follow her.
When the elevator doors open, I’m out and at my door in a dash. Unlocking it, I open up to see Kenzie’s gym bag on the floor right next to the door. All I have to do is glance to the right to see her bare legs lying on the floor.
“Fuck. Kenzie!” I slam the door behind me and am at her side in a split second.
“Meow.” Mittens is right next to her head, looking intrigued as to why Kenzie is there and not moving.
I scoop her into my hold, my fingers immediately pressing into the side of her neck to find her pulse. Feeling the strong beat tames my rapid heartbeat for a few seconds, but looking at how pale she is, matched with her drenched, chilled body, makes a rush of panic race through me.
I never understood what people say when they see red… until now.
Quickly, I lift her top half so she can rest against my chest, my hand pressing her forehead, which feels like it’s on fire.
She has a fever.
“I need Kat and Leo,” I grumble and find my phone a few feet away from where Mittens is sitting.
Quickly, I lift Kenzie up and lay her on the couch. I’d take her to the bedroom, but I need to warm her up first.
Grabbing my phone, I ring Leo, and he picks up in one ring.
“We’re five minutes away,” he announces.
“How…”
“Your brother has a tracker on your phone. Called him up to say your girl was missing but had your phone. Had the coordinates in seconds.”
I need to put a tracker on Kenzie’s phone.
That would have made life easier.
“I’m not going to ask why my bro has me tracked.”
“Because you do stupid shit for Winchester because you enjoy gambling with life,” Leo points out.
“I’m hanging up.”
