Bex leaned in a little, her lips less than an inch from Court’s. “Is that what you think?”
Court’s chuckle was deep and full of promise. “We both know it. Call it fate, destiny, whatever. It was always meant to be you and me, Becca. I was your first kiss, remember? I was meant to be your first everything.”
Bex watched him, and for a heartbeat, I thought she was about to melt. But at the last second, she leaned back with a smug look. “I’ll give you that you were my first kiss, but you weren’t my first.”
Court jolted like she’d slapped him.
“Or my second.” Bex made a soft tsking sound under her breath. “Not my third either.” She patted his cheek in a patronizing manner. “But it’s cute you think I spent the last several years waiting for you to come back and claim me while you fucked every girl with a willing hole.” Her gaze slid to Linc. “Sometimes with your bestie, too, right?”
“Shit,” Linc whispered, backing away from Court, who looked ready to explode like a nuclear bomb.
Court’s eyes narrowed. “Who?”
“Uh, pretty sure Linc’s your bestie, isn’t he? Or have you been sharing girls with more than him? I really hope you wrapped your shit up.” Bex played dumb.
“Stop playing games. Who were you with?” Court ground out, and I wondered if Knight’s medical skills extended to dentistry, because Court might need it, the way he was grinding his teeth.
Bex rolled her eyes. “I’m not doing this with you. We’re done, Court, okay? We’re not friends, we’re not anything.” She turned her stool back to face the other way as Court seethed at her back.
“We’ll see about that,” he growled before stalking out of the room. Moments later a door slammed somewhere in the house hard enough to rattle the pictures on the walls.
The timer buzzed, and I was pretty sure I heard Ryan say “Thank fuck” as he grabbed the first two pizzas from the ovens. He set the second pizza aside and put two more in the ovens before resetting the timer and looking at me. “Why don’t you—”
A sharp cry from the dining room cut him off, and we all scrambled through the doorway between the two rooms to see what was wrong.
Tyler looked up, her eyes finding me without hesitation, a massive smile spreading across her face.
“Jesus, girl,” Ash hissed, “what the fuck is wrong with you?”
Tyler didn’t pay him any attention. “I did it!”
“Did what?” I asked, my heart still pounding. I mean, seriously.
With a triumphant flourish, Tyler flipped around her laptop, showing us the screen. “I managed to transfer every single cent back into Madison’s accounts.” She eyed Ash with smug satisfaction. “And I made sure no one could hack her accounts again.”
Ash rolled his eyes as I gaped at her. “You got back the inheritance?”
Gary was going to lose his shit.
Tyler bit her lower lip, looking like she might explode from excitement. “Well, not exactly.”
Ash moved around the table and examined the screen. After a beat, his jaw literally dropped. “You did this?”
Tyler nodded.
“Goddamn,” Ash whispered, awed.
“What’d she do?” I asked.
Tyler smiled at me. “I wiped out every single account of Gary’s that I could find. All his liquid assets are now yours, Maddie.”
I stepped back, bumping into Ryan, who steadied me by putting his hands on my hips. “When you say wiped out, you mean…”
“I mean Gary Cabot can’t even buy a freaking cup of coffee at McDonalds. He’s dead-ass broke.”
“Holy shit,” I whispered, a slow smile starting to spread across my face.
“You’re rich, baby.” Ryan chuckled as he hugged me to his chest.
