“Indeed.”

After that little walk down memory lane, the guys all go back to their conversations, Vinny stepping away to join in the discussions.

“Sorry about earlier,” a soft voice says off to my right, and I glance over, finding Kali leaning against the wall next to me. “I’ve known the guys practically all my life, and for the longest time, I never thought Vincenzo, of all people, would meet his mate, let alone one that he shares with the rest of the guys.”

I take a moment to study her before answering. Kali is classically beautiful, but you can see how the streets have affected her. She has a perfectly heart-shaped face, with full lips and piercing green eyes. A dusting of freckles is splattered across her nose and cheeks, her pale skin making the little marks pop. Her hair is bright red and not the kind achieved from a bottle. It’s all-natural and looks amazing on her. She has a few inches on me in height, but really, who doesn’t?

“It’s alright,” I finally say a minute later. “I’m still learning all that comes with being an omega, and sometimes these instincts suck balls.” Kali snorts, shaking her head. “I never knew I could act the way I do sometimes because I didn’t have anyone that caused my insides to go haywire until those four.” I nod toward the guys.

“Ugh, I feel that so damn hard. The moment I mated with my guys, I swear. It’s like every alarm bell screams at me if someone gets too close. And it doesn’t matter if it’s a bitch or a dude. If they so much as give them goo-goo eyes, I’m ripping the bitches out.”

“Stabby. I like it. I think you just became my new best friend.”

“Yes,” she hisses, fist-pumping the air. She starts shaking her butt, making me laugh. “BFF’s for life,” she sings.

“Dinner is served,” Andre says, ending all conversation with a few placed words.

“Finally…” Kali and I mutter at the same time. We snap our heads toward each other and then start cackling.

We lock arms and skip out of the den toward the dining room, our men following in our footsteps.

Kali’s not as bad as I thought she would be. It was touch and go there for a minute when she threw herself at my alpha, but now. Yeah, I could see our friendship eventually evolving into an extension of the family.

Sometimes I still can’t believe this is my life after all I’ve been through, but right now, I wouldn’t ask for a do-over just to be an alpha. I’m right where I belong, in the presence of amazing people. People who would put their lives on the line for my own sake.

Guess Dad knew what he was doing when he stabbed me in the neck with a needle so I wouldn’t fight him on leaving.

Doesn’t mean I’m still not going to kick his old ass for that.

D-day is finally upon us, the clock two minutes from striking midnight. We decided it would be best to hit him hard in the middle of the night. That it’s something he wouldn’t expect. Especially since it’s something he’s already done to us. But, for us, it means fewer casualties of innocent bystanders anywhere in the surrounding vicinity.

We’re all geared up and waiting right down the road from the building, awaiting the signal that it’s go-time. My men surround me, their faces etched in worry. For me. For us as a whole. For what the outcome of tonight will be. After all, this is one shot. If we don’t kill the fucker now, we may not get another chance.

If Archie is anything like his father—which all signs point to yes—he’ll run away like a little bitch, and we won’t see him again until it’s too late. And we can’t have that.

Plus, we are going into this with the hope that our enemies will come into the light after one of theirs has befallen death. No guarantees, though. Those two are slippery shits, and we’re still no closer to figuring out how the hell they’ve slipped out watch all these months.

Kali and her men stand off to the right of us, their own troops lined up around them, guarding their backs. That girl, I swear, she’s fucking amazing. The moment we met, it was like kismet—instant besties for life. She lives in a male-dominated world, the same as I do, and she fucking rocks that shit. I can only hope, when I take over, that I’ll be just as confident as she is. I know I play the game well, but playing it and actually being that way are two completely different things.

Kali, though, she exudes that shit. Almost like she was born to do it. Which from what she told me, she wasn’t. Her mom was nothing more than a chef in the Andoneli compound. Her dad was one of Big Andoneli’s foot soldiers, and he passed before she was born.

So I guess you could say, she was born for it. Half of her blood is that of a strong man, one who fought to the bitter end to keep Big A safe.

Buzzing starts up around me, pulling me from my thoughts. Kali shoots me a smile, then spins and starts directing her men and women on where to go and what to do. My focus goes to my guys, listening as they delegate to our own people.

“Comms on. Channel six,” Arden’s voice rings out over the din of orders being handed out. Everyone moves at once, their hands reaching up, static coming over the line as they connect to the channel. “Teams, check-in,” Arden calls again, this time over the comm itself.

“Anarchy.”

“Fallout.”

“Lost souls.”

“Rocket.”

“Little killer.” I snort at the last one, covering my face. Of course Hunter would want to call our team that.

“Alright, teams. You all know your roles. Where to go. What to do. I want a full sweep of the entire place and take out everything in your sights. Team leaders, pictures.” Phones light up, passing around a picture of the main person we’re after. “That’s our main guy,” Vinny continues. “He does not leave this place alive. Clear?”
