“Clear,” everyone calls in unison.
“Eyes on.” Movement once again happens around me, every single person here pulling down their night vision goggles, readying themselves for the fight of their lives. Switches get flipped, and the darkened world becomes visible once more, complete in clarity, but in various shades of green.
Even with the night vision goggles on, there isn’t much to see except the other people around us, the ones further back that were lost in the darkness of night.
“Go.” That one simple word causes a flurry of activity; the teams break off to accomplish our goal. My guys and I, plus Kali and hers, wait until everyone is in position. Once they let us know, we’ll be going in through the front door. First, the others need to take out anyone around the building that may sound the alarm. We don’t want to give them any notice to get their shit together.
Since they lost their one inside man that we know of, we’re hoping they will be truly blind to our attack.
A quiet pop, pop, pop reaches my ears, the tell-tale sign that they’re taking out the ones roaming the outskirts of the building. It may be quiet for us here, but I’m sure it’s as loud as a warning siren echoing around the complex.
Static comes across the comms again. “Fallout clear.” It isn’t but a few moments later when the other two teams also call clear.
Go time.
“Anarchy, Little killer, let’s move out.” Vinny leads the way with all of us following on his heels, our M-16s at the ready for anything. As soon as we reach the perimeter of the building of the building, Vinny’s voice washes over the comms again. “Anarchy, move out.”
“Copy,” Kali answers, breaking off and heading around the back of the building. A few short, tense minutes later, Kali comes through again. “In position.”
The surrounding area is quiet; no signs of others coming from the inside to investigate. That doesn’t bode well for us. Either there’s no one well, which would be the best-case scenario, or they’re all lying in wait for us to enter the premises. My vote is for the latter since there’s no way whoever is inside didn’t hear the gunshots or the garbled cries of their fallen comrades.
It’s not like we’re exactly being discreet. That’s how they got us, though, the last time. From what we watched on the video, after Arden got through the rest of the corrupted files, it was Trevor who went through, killing some of our people outside. Once the first shot sounded, that’s when all the others came roaring through our gates.
We come to a rest right outside the main entrance of the building, and Vinny pushes me behind him, shielding my body with his own as the guys take the other side of the door.
“In three. Two. One. Go. Go. Go.”
The door flies off the hinges after a well-placed kick from Hunter, his movements so quick he was nothing more than a blur. Shots ring out as expected as Hunter tucks himself back beside the opening, Gavin taking his place and dropping low, peeking around the corner. He pops off a few shots before retreating, Arden moving into his place.
My nerves buzz with the need to do something. Anything but stand here while they put themselves in danger right here at the door.
Just as Arden prepares to engage, I drop to the ground and army-crawl through Vinny’s parted legs, setting up and squeezing the trigger at the same moment Arden unleashes his own hellfire. Those inside weren’t expecting the move, and before they could get away, they all hit the ground. Dead.
“Move,” Hunter hisses through comms as Vinny rips me from the ground, his mouth opening to no doubt scold me for what I did. I’d like to see him try. Because of my actions, we now have access to the house.
“Worry about it later. Let’s go.” Gavin comes to my rescue, saving my hide from what no doubt would be a tongue-lashing of epic proportions. And not the good kind. Ya know, where his tongue is on my clit, lashing away until I shudder with an orgasm.
Maybe later.
Hunter goes in first, followed by Gavin. Vinny and I squeeze through the door simultaneously, with Arden at our backs. One of the perimeter teams comes in right after us, surrounding our five-some like a wall of protection that we don’t really need but am grateful for nonetheless. We have no idea what to expect now that we’re inside.
Bright lights flair as all the interior lights are turned on, blinding us. What the fucking hell! We cut their source of power. The pop of gunfire starts to echo through the space, followed by the moans of those being hit by the spray of bullets.
“Down!” Vinny shouts through the comms, his voice tinged with worry.
My body hits the ground hard, and I rip off my goggles, finding the source of the light. Flood lights are stationed around the outside edges of the room, hooked up to generators.
Taking quick aim, I squeeze off a shot, hitting dead to rights as the first light goes back out. As others figure out what I’ve done, they work, taking out the rest of the lights. Once the room is plunged back into darkness, I throw my goggles back on, my eyes adjusting to the green vision in front of me again.
Gavin helps me off the floor, his hands roaming my body as he checks for any injuries. He won’t find any.
My eyes dart around as he continues his inspection, taking in the carnage of those we lost already—thank fuck it isn’t much. The vests have once again saved our asses, minus a few who took a bullet to the head.
It may sound shitty, but I thank the Gods that none of my guys are the ones we lost. My heart wouldn’t handle it if one of them were taken from me before we even got a real chance to be something. Mate bites. Yeah, I’m thinking about mating bites when I should be focused on what’s happening around me.
Focus, Haylee, for fuck’s sake. You can think about those when we’re back at home.
There’s a moment where everything is quiet once again, and I take the chance to take in the building. From the outside, it looked like any other warehouse, but the interior is more suited as a home. Like they revamped the whole thing to be inhabitable.
