There’s a list attached of certain side effects, but none of them seem wary enough to cause for alarm, so after spending countless hours doing a little more research on the company and the drug, it’s looking like our best bet instead of continuing to try her withstanding a command.

This drug seems like it’s the answer to all our prayers in keeping her safe.

But before I can order it, cost be damned, I need to talk to the guys. They have more say in this situation than I do. And if they agree, then I’ll place a hefty order and present it to her.

After printing out all of the relevant information, I shoot off a quick text to the guys, asking them, politely might I add, to come to my office. They all agreed, much to my surprise, without any bitching. Let’s just hope it stays that way once they enter.

Things have been less tense between the four of us since Haylee agreed to give me a shot to redeem myself, but that can change in the blink of an eye. Part of me is hopeful, though, that they will see this as me trying.

After all, trying is all I can do at this point.

A tap, tap, tap catches my attention, and I sit forward in my chair, folding my hands across my desk. “Come in,” I call, mildly surprised they actually knocked instead of barging in like usual.

The three trail in one after another and take seats at various points around the office. Hunter takes his customary spot on the black couch along the far wall and once again has his knife in his grip, flipping it with ease through his fingers. Arden and Gavin take the wingbacks situated in front of my desk, resting back without a care in the world.

When Haylee left my office the other day, I called Arden in immediately and explained to him her thoughts, and he ran with it. There hasn’t been an update yet, but I hope for one soon. I’m sure the second he knows, he’ll be right here in my office with a printout.

My fingers rap over the shining surface of my desk, my nerves at bringing this up belaying my stoic demeanor. “Thank you for joining me so quickly. Something was brought to my attention, and I wanted to share it with you guys and get your thoughts on the subject matter.” I stand from my desk, grab the papers I printed out, and pass each of the guys a stack.

Time ticks by as I watch them read through everything there. The first sheet is the email I received from Thane, full-disclosure, so they know it’s an idea of his. Next, I included the research I personally found on the drug, along with the ingredients, what it does, and the side effects. No sense in bringing it up if I don’t present them with all the facts.

Arden pulls out his phone, just like I figured he would, typing rapidly across the screen for any additional information I may have missed. Usually, I would be appalled by such a thing, but this is Haylee we are talking about. We can never be too careful when it comes to her well-being.

Gavin’s blond brows climb his head with every word he reads, shock coloring his features. He looks up at me. “Is this real?”

“Very real. The clinical trials are already well underway, and there have been glowing reviews from the omegas who have been accepted to the program. The drug itself is about a year old, but they’ve spent months fine-tuning it before presenting it for the trials. Arden,” I nod in his direction, “is there anything I’ve missed?”

“No,” he mutters, not looking up from his phone. “Your research is solid. The company itself, Tri-Med, is a supplier of all the major drugs already being consumed by the masses. One of the most noted is a heat-blocking pill for omegas, and granted, that comes with side effects also, but that’s to be expected with any drugs on the market.”

“My question,” Hunter speaks up, “is how Thane came across this information before any of us did.”

“Thane has been looking for a way to help Haylee with this problem since her designation. It’s taken years, but I sure as hell won’t look a gift horse in the mouth,” Gavin interjects before I can. “Have you spoken to Haylee about this yet?”

“I have not.” I lean back in my chair, the squeak of the leather ringing in my ears. Gavin goes to reply, but I hold my hand up, stopping him. “Before getting Haylee’s hopes up, I wanted to talk to you three first. There are pros and cons to this drug, and if you guys decided the bad outweighed the good, then I wouldn’t say anything to her. But, we do have to remember it is ultimately her decision if she wants to do it. I just don’t want to put her in jeopardy of any of the more ill-gotten effects if we can avoid them.”

The phone finally lowers from in front of Arden’s eyes, and he looks up at me. “I say we do it. Give her the option if she wants to take it. What can it hurt? A headache? A stomach ache? I mean, that shit happens all the time as it is.”

My gaze snags on Gavin, and I raise a brow in question. “It’s a yes from me. If this will avoid another scenario like what happened back at the Storm compound, I’m all for it.”

Next, my eyes shift to Hunter, the only one who looks remotely skeptical. “What happens if she’s all for it, and it doesn’t work? What if she gets put in a situation where she desperately needs it to work, and it fails?”

My fingers grip my chin, and I drag my fingers back and forth across the slight stubble as I ponder his questions. My head tilts to the side as I regard him. “Well, it takes a few days for the drug to fully penetrate her system, but in the meantime, we still work with her to withstand commands. Every day we’ll throw commands at her, and if, say, in a week, she’s still susceptible to them, then we know it doesn’t work for her. Again, this is where I worry about getting her hopes up, but I think it’s a chance we have to take if we want her protected.”

“If we present her with the same facts as you have us, then she can make the decision if it’s something she wants to attempt,” Arden says, drawing my attention to him. “But I honestly don’t see her saying no to it.” He shakes his head, his dark hair flopping with the movement.

“How long will it take to get our hands on it?” Gavin asks, his eyes darting over the papers again.

I suck my teeth, wobbling my head back and forth. “Depends. I would need to call them, but I think with the right motivation, we can have it here in a few days. But I don’t want to give her the information first and then have to wait for it to come in. So I’ll order it if we’re all unanimous, and then if she says yes, she can start taking it immediately. Does that work?”

Three yeses greet my ears, and a slow smile spreads across my face. Hopefully, this one act will put me in a better favor with Haylee. I know it won’t absolve me completely, but it will show her that her safety is my top priority. Like it should have been from the very beginning.

“Dude,” Hunter draws my attention, “what the fuck is wrong with your face?” He chuckles, his customary wicked grin curling his lips. Gavin and Arden crack up right alongside him as I throw them all a scowl.

Fuckers.

They act like I’ve never smiled before.

“Out.” I point at the door, growling under my breath.
