They jump up and hightail out of the office, the door slamming in their wake. Even behind the closed, solid slab of wood, I can still hear them laughing.

Assholes.

Opening my laptop, I shoot off a quick email to Thane, detailing what we’ve talked about and decided, then go back to the regular email, scrolling all the way to the bottom. There, in blue lettering, is the phone number for the company, Tri-Med, along with the owner’s name.

The line rings twice after I dial it before an employee answers, cheerful as bright as the sun shines. “Thank you for calling Tri-Med. This is Cynthia, how may I help you on this wonderful day?” Hmmm, she sounds like she may be on drugs of another kind. Uppers, maybe. I snort, covering it with a cough. Good Gods. Get a grip, man.

I blame Haylee wholeheartedly for my thoughts. That woman says what she thinks out loud, and in some way, it’s rubbed off on us all.

“Hello, Cynthia. My name is Vincenzo Andoneli, and I’d like to speak with Mr. Hayfield, please. If you could let him know I’m calling in response to an email he sent Thane Storm, that would be great.”

“Oh, oh. Wow. Yes, Mr. Andoneli, I’ll ring him right away. We’ve actually been waiting to hear back from you or Mr. Storm. He let us know that you may be calling. Hold, please.”

Light jazz filters back to me from the receiver as I wait for Hayfield. If they’ve been waiting for my call, then I should be able to have this in hand in just a few short days. It is pinnacle for this drug to work for what Thane and I have planned. She’ll still be one hell of a boss if it doesn’t, but thinking of how she can flourish with it makes my cock twitch in my pants.

I don’t have a submissive bone in my body, but there’s no denying how hot it would be to sit by and listen as she gives out orders.

“Mr. Andoneli, it’s a pleasure to hear from you.”

Shit. Now isn’t the time for a stiffy when there’s an important conversation ahead of me. Readjusting my hardened length, I get down to business.

The men of this house are up to something.

Call it a hunch, or maybe it’s my spidey senses tingling, but they’ve been avoiding me. I wouldn’t worry so much if it was just Vinny, but it’s the other three, also. We enjoyed a delicious spread of breakfast earlier, but then they all deserted me under the guise of business.

In two seconds flat, I called bullshit on that. Even after gaining the all-clear from Doc almost a week ago, at least one of them has been with me at all times, unless Vinny calls a meeting. But there’s no meeting right now, and they all went in different directions, so what the fuck are they up to?

The only thing I can think of is that whatever showed up when there was a knock at the door has gained their attention. But why keep it from me? Unless… My teeth dig into my lip. Unless Vinny still doesn’t trust that I can handle whatever the hell it is.

But again, that still doesn’t work since they scattered to opposite ends of the house.

You know what? Fuck it and fuck them right along with it. I know I bitched about them constantly being up my ass while I was healing, and they listened the last time I said something and were all relaxed. But now they are just outright avoiding me.

No use worrying over it. If they don’t want to include me, then the four of them can eat dicks.

* * *

Best. Idea. Ever.

A sigh parts my lips as the water laps against my bikini-clad body, the pool a perfect temperature with the sun shining brightly, heating everything it touches. This is my second time taking advantage of the house’s many amenities, and I could almost kick my own ass for not using it sooner. But then again, I didn’t want to risk running into Bianca. It’s the main reason why I stopped going to the library after she attacked me there.

Birds sing in the surrounding trees, the foliage offering a bit of shade over the concrete surroundings. Once I’ve soaked up enough sun, I plan to lay out and chill until dinner time. It’s not like there’s much else I could be doing until then. As it was, the guys were scarce at lunchtime, so I enjoyed the delicious BLT Andre made me all by my lonesome.

Jeez. Thank fuck no one is privy to my inner thoughts. I sound like a whiney bitch. I bark out a laugh. I sound like Bianca.

“What’s so funny, sweets?”

A scream rips out of me, and I flail in the water, completely submerging myself. My mouth gapes like a fish as my heart hammers in my chest from the fright, accidentally attempting to breathe chlorinated liquid. My head finally breaks free, and I sputter, trying to expel the fluid I inhaled.

“What the fuck,” I choke out, spitting the shitty taste out of my mouth.

Flinging my glasses off, I wipe at my stinging eyes, throwing a death glare in the direction Arden’s voice came from. Once my vision returns, I find him crouched down next to the edge, his hand covering his mouth, trying to hide the smile curling his lips.

Dick.

My legs tread water as I swim closer to Arden, hoping he can’t tell what I’m about to do. My arms cross as I place them on the concrete ledge, resting my chin on top, smiling up at my sweet—or in this case, not so sweet—alpha. He grins down at me, his eyes sparkling when I pucker my lips. Quickly dropping to his knees, he bends down, slanting his mouth against mine.

Arden groans, swiping his tongue across my lips, begging without words to open for him. I do happily, snickering in my mind at what’s about to occur. Silly alpha doesn’t even see it coming.
