No, no, no.My heart squeezed painfully, my mind screaming to do something. But what could I do? They’d kill both of us. Zan was still holding on to me, and I was sure he noticed how tense I was. But I couldn’t force myself to relax. Not when Warner was right here.

Viggo jumped up from his chair, sauntering toward Warner with a cruel grin playing on his lips. The crowd moved out of his way, and it didn’t take long until he was standing a few feet in front of Warner.

“Is that true?” Viggo asked. “You killed two of our kind?”

“I’ll fucking kill you all,” Warner snarled, lunging at Viggo, who easily dodged the move before punching Warner in the head hard enough that he crumpled to the floor. I didn’t breathe until I witnessed his chest rising to prove he was only unconscious.

“You know what to do.” Viggo nodded at the two vampires who had brought Warner inside, and they hauled my best friend up and dragged him to an empty cage. Gia strode up and locked it with a key after they slammed the cage door shut.

“This city is ours,” Zan breathed in my ear. “No one leaves or gets in without us knowing about it.”

I swallowed back a sob, glad Zan was behind me when I barely blinked away a lone tear as I stared at Warner.

There was no way I could leave now.

Chapter15

Zan

“This should last us at least three months,” Viggo muttered as he pushed the last box into the back seat of the truck.

We were about two hours from our city, picking up supplies to stock our club. The drugs were easy enough to keep in stock because we had them being made in the south. Alcohol was a bit more difficult. There was barely any left from before the war, and making it was time consuming. But it was worth it to keep the vampires happy and in line like we needed.

“Amaros is expecting an update next month.”

I gave a curt nod to Brett. “We’ll be at the meeting.”

Brett hesitated, fear lining his face as he stared at the ground. Viggo exchanged a glance with me, raising an eyebrow.

“Spit it out, Brett,” I drawled. “What’s going on?”

“We were raided a few days ago. Amaros was already made aware. He wasn’t pleased.”

I stared at him, my skin prickling. The humans were getting more aggressive, and I didn’t fucking like it. They weren’t happy about the fact that vampires were taking over uninhabited cities. We had been keeping it quiet, but PARA was catching on that we were setting up near their cities.

“How bad?” Viggo asked tightly.

“The city is gone. Half of us got out,” Brett mumbled.

“Shit,” I breathed out. “Not fucking good.”

“We were quiet like we were supposed to be,” Brett rushed out. “But…we had a couple of rogue vamps who decided feeding was more important. They drew attention.”

“Were they dealt with?” I asked sharply.

“Your father handled them.”

“Good. We’ll take back what we lost,” Viggo replied, forcing a smile to his face. “We’ll see you next month.”

Viggo and I got in the truck, and I started driving back home. The news that Brett shared was troubling, and I needed to make sure our city stayed intact. We’d have to add more watchers and scouts to keep a closer eye on PARA.

“Dad is going to put more pressure on us after this,” Viggo muttered.

“I know.”

“We need to find a way to get into Project Hope.”

I sighed. “We will.”
