But he was also more. No matter how much I fought it, I couldn’t look at him like I did all other vampires.

He spoke again, pulling me out of my head.

“Last chance,” he said, pulling his shorts back on. “Come with me.”

I sat up, pulling the sheet to my chest. “That was a one-time thing. I won’t see you again.”

He scoffed. “Keep telling yourself that.”

I leaned against the wall, staying on the bed as he stood up and quickly crossed the room. My stomach dipped when he pulled open the drawer of the dresser and stuck his hand in. After a couple of moments, he pulled out his necklace.

“How’d you know it was in there—”

“I’ll hold on to this. Until I see you again,” he cut me off as he slid the chain over his head.

I rolled my eyes. “You’ll be holding on to it for a long time.”

He glanced at the door before his gaze darted to the window. In three quick strides, he was standing next to the bed, and he reached down, wrapping his hand around the back of my neck. He slowly slid his hand up until his fingers tangled in my hair, and he tightened his hold before tilting my head back.

He lowered his head, and his lips crashed onto mine. He nipped at my bottom lip immediately and pushed his tongue in the second I relented. His taste overwhelmed everything else as I kissed him back. Until I heard the click of my door. My eyes snapped open, and I tried jerking back. But Zan wasn’t done. He kissed me for a second longer before pulling away.

I whipped my head to the door, my blood turning to ice when I spotted Warner standing in the doorway. He wasn’t moving a muscle, looking utterly shocked. Until his gaze cut to Zan, and murder filled his eyes.

“Even if I’m not here, I want him to know.” Zan untangled his fingers from my hair. “That you’re mine.”

Warner let out a loud yell as he charged across the room. Zan ducked away from Warner’s fist before swinging his own into Warner’s ribs and sweeping his leg out, knocking him to the floor. Zan had the window open and was halfway out before Warner got back to his feet.

Zan glanced at me one last time. “Bye, Kali.”

Then he was gone. There was shouting throughout the house, showing that others had woken up. My hands were clenching the sheet as I stared at Warner. Oh my fuck, this was bad. Warner cursed under his breath and stuck his head out the window before turning his attention to me. His eyes traveled down to my throat, horror filling them when he saw the marks that Zan had left.

“What the fuck happened, Kali?”

Kali

Istared at Warner, unable to say a damn word. He stomped across the room, shutting my door and then turning back to look at me. His eyes were hard and unreadable, and I swallowed thickly, the knots in my stomach threatening to tear me apart.

“Did he attack you?” Warner hissed, his gaze going back to the hickeys on my neck. “That kiss didn’t look forced.”

Before I could answer, there were heavy footsteps in the hall, heading straight to my room. Warner mumbled a curse as he quickly reached for the light with one hand while pulling off his shirt with the other. I frowned, not understanding what he was doing. The room fell into darkness again once the light was off and a couple of seconds later, Warner slipped into the bed with me. His arm went around me, and he pulled me with him until we were both lying down.

“Warner—”

I snapped my mouth shut when my door suddenly burst open. I fought against Warner to sit back up, keeping a tight grip on the sheet. The light flicked back on, revealing Garrett and another man standing in the doorway. Warner put his arm around my waist, keeping me close while Garret stared at us, his eyes going to my neck.

“What the fuck, Garrett?” Warner snapped. “You can’t just come barging into our room.”

“You two have been in here all night?” Garrett asked slowly.

“Not that it’s any of your business, but yes,” Warner answered curtly. “What do you want?”

I stayed silent, feeling much too exposed since I was naked under the blanket. My heart was pounding against my ribs, and I leaned against Warner, only to feel him stiffen. He was protecting me. But it was clear he was pissed.

“The vampire escaped,” Garrett spat out. “Get dressed and meet us in the basement. Now.”

With that, he spun around and strode away with the other man following. Warner climbed out of bed and grabbed his shirt off the floor.
