My phone buzzed on the counter and I grabbed it as I made my way to the balcony, seeing Angel’s name.
Jackie made plans for Wednesday! I’ll send more details later!
Can’t wait!
Looking out at the water, I knew I needed to be on the beach, so I didn’t waste a lot of time getting my suit on and getting down there. I spent all day under a rented umbrella, reading a book and relaxing. It was the most relaxed I had been in a long time, and it made me think that Miami was actually going to be good for me.
I planned on doing the exact same thing on Monday, but an early sharp knock on the door changed those plans.
“Delivery,” a guy yelled just as I put my eye to the peephole.
Quickly opening the door, I saw more than just the one man. There were six of them, all wearing the same furniture delivery outfit. “Are you looking for the other apartment?” Maybe someone rented it out.
“I don’t think so. Are you Lillian Harris?”
“Yes,” I confirmed warily.
“A gentleman named Cruz Martin asked us to deliver these items and set them up.”
“I don’t know anything about that.”
Just as I was going to ask them to leave, a text popped up on my phone. Luckily, it was a number I had already saved and knew exactly who it was.
There’s a delivery coming. Don’t freak out, just let them in.
ChapterTen
Cruz
Ilooked at my phone, waiting for a response from Lily, but it didn’t come in before I had to head to the field to warm up. When I came back in, I checked my phone again, and smiled.
Cruz? What did you do?
So it came?
All of it!!!
Another peace offering with a healthy layer of another apology.
I was headed to the beach again today, but now I’m not leaving. Maybe ever.
That was a laugh. One tiny gesture didn’t change the fact that she would be ready to run the second she got that job.Or I wouldn’t be ready to throw her out. That was just the nature of our relationship. Still, I wanted her to feel comfortable, and it was something I needed anyway.
“What are you reading?” Rhys asked, tapping my arm before sitting down next to me at his locker.
Rhys Peyton was the one guy I had to avoid for a while. He was our best player, but I may have teased him alittlewhen he was trying to deny his feelings for Ash. If he knew what I sent Lily, he would have ammo to shoot at me for years.
“Just an email.” That wasn’t a complete lie, I had pulled my email up to confirm the delivery status.
“An email?” He asked unbelievingly. “From a girl?”
“No, just some shit I ordered.” I put my phone up into my locker, and played off whatever Rhys saw on my face when he walked up. It was probably a little satisfaction at doing something right for a change, but that’s all it was, and Rhys didn’t need details.
“Uh huh,” he laughed but let it go. “How’s your sister doing? She finally get in?”
“She’s not my sister,” I bit at him, only to see his face lit up like Christmas morning. “And stop trying to push my buttons.”
“I didn’t know there were buttons to push.”
