“No. I heard them for a while, but they must have turned back when I ran into the group of men.”
He pressed harder against her back. “Fuck. I’ll find them eventually. In the meantime, I think you and I can have some fun.”
“Mister, you don’t want to do that. I have a boyfriend now, and he’s really protective. He’ll kill you.”
The man chuckled. “Then let’s go now so he doesn’t have a chance of finding us.”
“He will find you, and then you’ll die.”
“Not if we’re gone.” The man stiffened but stepped back, grabbed her upper arm, and yanked. “My car is parked around the corner. I’ve been waiting for days to get you alone.”
She wouldn’t be in this predicament if only she listened to the girls and her mate. She also had a sinking feeling that Jacob would never find her if they got away. The thought of what would happen to him if she was taken and killed filled her head. Would he start to go feral again and then eventually die?
God, she couldn’t let that happen. She dropped to the ground.
“What the fuck, cunt. Get up, or I’ll drag you.”
“I’m not leaving,” she cried out. She inhaled and opened her mouth to scream when he kicked her in the stomach, making her lose her breath and just about pass out.
“Goddammit. You’ll pay for this, you little bitch.”
He grabbed her hair and dragged her toward the back of the buildings. When she was able to breathe again, she screamed. It was cut off when he slapped her across the face. She continued to fight for her and Jacob’s life because if he lost her, he would die, too. Of that, she was certain, and she couldn’t imagine the world without him in it.
He opened the front door of an older car and pushed her. She continued to fight, so it took a minute to get her into it. She reached for the passenger side door and tried to open it, but the man yanked her back against him and put his arm around her throat, cutting off her air.
Black dots obscured her vision, and she knew she had seconds to fight, or she’d be passed out or dead. She sank her teeth into his arm, tearing his skin and into the muscle, making the man howl in pain. He tried hitting her and tearing at her hair, but she wouldn’t release him.
She was startled to hear another howl, but this one was crazed and filled with fury.
The driver’s side door was yanked open. “Release him, Mate,” Jacob said.
It took her a moment to unlock her jaw before she could back away from his arm. The man was held back against the seat.
Jacob pulled the man out and threw him several feet away to where Roman, two of his brothers, and a few others stood. The Alpha caught the man and held him so tightly he couldn’t move.
Sage especially liked the terror on the man’s face. He would get what he deserved.
“My brother is going to take you to the clinic to get checked out,” Jacob said.
She wiped the blood from her forehead. “No.”
“You’re bleeding.”
“It’s okay, Jacob. It’s just a little blood.”
“What about a concussion?” he asked.
“No. Not even a headache.” She needed him to hold her in the worst way, but he stood just outside of the car, and it looked like he was barely holding it together, so she didn’t want to push it.
Jacob studied her for a moment and then nodded his head. “Mate, my brother is going to take you home.”
She turned to see Jacob leaning into the car and shook her head. “No. I need you.”
Jacob sighed. “And you’ll get me, but first, I have to take care of this.”
“Can’t you have someone else do it?”
He shook his head. “No. You’re my mate, and it’s my responsibility. Gunner will take you home, and one of the women will go with you to help you bathe.”
