I give her a cold look, and she stops in her tracks, looking terrified.

"The hell you are. If you want your kid you need to call the police. They've been looking for you for the past two months. I'm sure they'll give you back Winston when you can prove you're not on drugs."

"Kevin, please, wait!" Diana takes a step closer to me.

Shaking my head, I walk away. "I don't wanna see or talk to you right now."

"When then?" she asks as the tears keep running down her face.

My heart shrinks at the sight of her in pain, but right now I need to protect myself.

"I don't know. Maybe never."

Chapter 9

Kevin

Rushing home, I take Winston inside, still having a hard time believing that Hannah just watched me take her baby away without a fight. As soon as I get inside, I call Eliza. I need someone I can trust to stay with Winston while I clear my mind and decide what to do next.

I can't reach Eliza, but I need someone right now. Scrolling through my contacts, I decided to call my sister. Olivia always said she doesn't want to have kids, and the first time she met Winston, she wouldn’t go near him, so she’s definitely not my first option.

Closing my eyes, I hit call and wait.

"Hey, Kevin, how's life with a baby?" she asks in a mocking tone.

"Can you please come over?"

She doesn't say anything for a couple of seconds, maybe looking for an excuse to say no.

"I'll be right there," she tells me, ending the call.

Winston falls asleep, and I take him from the stroller to his crib, being careful to not wake him up.

Sitting on the floor next to him, I let my thoughts take over me. I don't wanna lose him. I love this little guy, and I am not ready to let his mom have him back just because now she’s decided she wants him. I wonder if Diana told Hannah where to find us, but as I remember her expression when Hannah called her, I would say she was even more surprised than me.

A knock on my door pulls me from my thoughts, and I open the door to see my sister Olivia nervously at the door.

"Are you okay?" she asks, stepping inside. "What happened?"

I close the door and follow her to the living room.

"Can you stay with Winston for a couple of hours?"

Her expression changes as she takes in my request. Looking around, Olivia seems to be ready to run away.

"Where's your nanny?"

"She's not here," I tell her with a serious expression.

She looks at me attentively and collapses on the couch, laughing. "Did you have to get between her legs too? You can have any woman you want, and you went for the one who was supposed to be taking care of the kid?"

I move away from her, rage taking over me. "It was nothing like that! She lied to me!"

Olivia's smug expression vanishes, as she leans forward, resting her elbows on her knees. "What do you mean? Did something happen to Winston?"

The concern in her voice is clear, and I calm down a little. "He's fine. She lied about who she is," I start, explaining everything that happened today. "So, I just can't keep her here anymore. What if one day I wake up and she's gone with my kid?"

"Look, I don't know her, as we've never met, but I think I can understand what she did."
