I stare at her, shocked. "What do you mean?"

She shrugs. "It just seems to me that she was trying to do the best for the kid and be around him. I mean, did she ever do anything to hurt him or to make you think that she could vanish with him?"

I think back to everything that happened in the last month and shake my head. "No. Diana wasn't even my first choice. But the other nanny got distracted at the park, and the stroller rolled down to the street. Diana stopped it." I pause. "Now that I think about it, she probably wasn't in that park by accident. She was following them!"

Olivia gives me a small smile. "Sounds like it, but no matter why she was there, the point is that she saved Winston."

"I guess," I whisper.

Standing from the couch, Olivia takes a step closer to me and pats my shoulder gently. "I think sometimes it's easy to forget that not everyone has the same chances we get just because we're Harringtons. Diana found a way to work and stay around her nephew at the same time. That sounds pretty resourceful to me."

I nod slowly. "And she's attending nursing school at night," I add, without trying to hide how proud I am of Diana.

Olivia's smile grows. "She sounds amazing, and I can see why she caught your eye. She works hard to get what she wants. I can't believe managing working with a baby and studying would be easy for her, but she made it happen."

I nod, not sure about what to say. I wasn't expecting her to come over here and make me rethink everything from the last couple of hours.

"You know what? I'm gonna check on Winston and stay with him for a while to give you some time to think about what you really want. Calm down. Listen to your heart and decide what's best with both you and Winston in mind."

I nod, walking to the small table in the corner to pour myself a drink. "When did you get so smart?" I ask when Olivia is by the door.

She glances back and smiles. "I've always been smart, but being the only woman between so many guys means that sometimes I wouldn't get heard until you need something."

Her words hurt me more than I care to admit. She's right. My brothers and I haven't always listened to her, but it has nothing to do with her being a woman. Being the youngest, we just have a hard time seeing her as more than our little sister, even if she has proved her worth several times.

Olivia is right when she says we sometimes have a hard time getting into other people's shoes. We were born into a fortune, and trying to figure out other people's motivations can be hard.

As my mind keeps going back to the happy moments I had with Diana, I realize that she never asks for anything. She never assumed or felt entitled to anything. Diana just kept doing her job and taking care of Winston.

Winston seems to be happy around her, just like me. Somehow she got a place in both our hearts, and now I don't know what to do. I don't want to risk it and get hurt again. But I don't think it would be fair for Winston to keep him away from his aunt.

A small voice tells me that keeping him away from his mom isn't fair either, but I push it away. His mom gave him away to a stranger without making sure that I would take care of him.

I felt an immediate connection to him and wouldn't be okay knowing that he could end up in an institution, but things could have gone much worse for him. Keeping Diana in our lives would be a good decision, as we both care for her, and I believe she cares about us too. But the only way I'm gonna agree with having her back is if she agrees to keep Hannah away.

But with Diana back, how can I stay away from her? All I can think about when I'm around her is having her in my arms, feeling her close to me. Hearing her sounds of pleasure while I make her mine.

With a deep breath, I fetch my phone from my jeans and call her before I change my mind. This is what's best for everyone. I just need to find a way to stay away from her, somehow.

Chapter 10

Diana

"Stop crying. You look pathetic," Hannah tells me in a harsh tone.

Spinning, I walk away from her. I can't stop crying. I shouldn't have allowed myself to believe that I could be happy. I thought this time things would be different. I thought this time Hannah wouldn't find a way to ruin my life.

How could I be so stupid?

"Where are you going?" Hannah asks, running after me.

"I don't know!" I scream in her face, wishing it had the same effect as when Kevin did it, but she just keeps coming after me.

I don't have a place anymore. I was living with Kevin, so I left my apartment. I also don't have a job. Because of Hannah. Again.

"Okay, I can see you're not in a good place right now," she says, grabbing me by the arm, and forcing me to face her. "So, can you just give me some money, and I'll leave you alone?"

I freeze in place, unable to believe this is really happening.
