Pax laughed as he wiped his face where I’d splashed him. “You got me wet.”
“He’s not the only one.”
I glanced over at Samantha, who sat in the chaise in a black bikini. My mouth went dry to see so much of her smooth, curvy flesh.
“Cannonball!” Pax yelled.
I quickly tore my gaze from Samantha to Pax as he hit the water next to me. I waited a beat to see if he popped up but was there to grab him if needed.
His head surfaced and he grinned. “Did I do it?”
“You did it great, champ.”
We cannonballed a few more times, and then I helped him stand on my shoulders and he jumped from there.
“Look at me, Mommy,” Pax called out when I had him standing on my shoulders again.
“Oh, my goodness, look at you. Make sure you don’t hurt Henry, okay?”
“Okay.” Pax jumped.
I looked over at Samantha. “Are you suggesting I’m old? Because I’m quite fit.”
“Not at all.” Her green eyes scanned my chest... or I thought they did. Maybe it was wishful thinking.
The afternoon was the most fun I’d had in some time. Being with Pax like this made me miss the days when Victoria was a child.
After swimming, we headed up to our rooms.
“Mommy, I’m hungry,” Pax said as they reached their suite.
“It’s about time for dinner. We’ll get cleaned up and see about getting food.”
I’d reached my door, and a tinge of sadness came over me. I’d be eating alone unless, of course, I could convince Samantha and Pax to eat with me.
“Can you come too?” Pax asked me.
“Ah... well...” God, I wanted to say yes, but I didn’t want to invade their family time.
“If you’d like to join us, you can,” Samantha said. I searched her face to determine whether she meant it or was just being nice. I couldn’t tell.
“I wouldn’t mind having company.”
“Yay!” Pax yelled.
“I’ll shower and change and be over. We can go out or order in—”
“I think it would be best to order in and start getting him settled down or he may not sleep.”
Pax zoomed into the room, and I laughed. “He looks like he has enough energy for days.”
I enjoyed having dinner with Samantha, Pax, and Marie. I wondered if Mrs. Tillis was right and I should have been eating with them at my house.
After the meal, I returned to my room and prepared for the next day. When I finished that, I poured a drink and took in the view from the hotel balcony. This had been a lovely day. It had been invigorating to play with Pax. Victoria was right in that I needed to get out more and work less. I hadn’t felt the desire to until now. Until Samantha and Pax.
The next morning,I arranged a car to take Samantha and me over to theBanion Timesoffices. We were both quiet as we sipped coffee in to-go cups. I was sure she was thinking about the day ahead. Me? I was thinking about the previous day at the pool, playing with Pax and enjoying the sight of Samantha, beautiful and sexy as she lounged in the sun.
We pulled up to the building and I helped her out. “I’ll take you to meet the team you’ll be working with and then head off to my own business.”
