He’s not flaky like Zane. He won’t abandon his Omega when she desperately needs him.

“Do you even know what it’s like to lose someone?” Zane asks me. “Do you know what it’s like to lose a true mate?”

“I know how it felt for Dale, and it fucking sucked.”

“Don’t you get it? Dale and I were going through the same thing. We were both broken.” He straightens his shoulders and winces. “Can you please cut these fucking zip ties off my wrists so I can actually go check on Dale?”

I frown at him, but I take the penknife out of my pocket.

“Do you seriously not have any fuel stored somewhere?” I ask him.

He shakes his head. “I had to go all in with this.”

“Turn around.”

He does what I ask, and I cut his wrists free.

“Oh, thank God,” he mutters, as he flexes his fingers. “Thanks.”

“Just make sure Dale’s okay.”

I need to get the fuck out of here. Zoey’s perfume is too strong. It’s making me feel light-headed and it’s pushing primal instincts on me.

She’s not my mate. I don’t need to claim her.

I move past the couch, muttering, “Good luck,” to Archer as I go.

I can see the worry in his eyes. He’s holding her hand, but she isn’t waking up.

Fuck. I can’t fucking do this. I can’t walk away.

I have to stay here and help them.

“I don’t think she can tell I’m here,” Archer admits. “She’s not waking up.”

I close my eyes. This is my worst nightmare. No. It’s worse than my worst nightmare.

It’s hell on earth, and I’m trapped here. Opening my eyes, I nod at Archer.

“Talk to her, tell her you’re there. I’ll get a cold compress.”

I look at Zane, who’s leaning over the couch watching her.

“You,” I tell him. “Find Dale and bring him out here. You need to keep watch over him, too.”

Zane nods, before he darts across the lobby and heads up the stairs.

“Kitchen?” I ask Archer.

“Across from the dining room.”

I nod and head for the kitchen.

Chapter Seventy-One

Russ

Dale passes out after I give him head. It seems like an Omega thing. I know they can be super sensitive, and once they’re in heat they tend to need to sleep between sessions.
