The thought is there, and that’s important.
It tells me how he feels about me.
He might not know what my style is, but he’s done his best to think of everything and provide for my needs. He’s showing me he’s ready to be my Alpha.
I close the closet, wondering what my Alphas are talking about.
They’ve been alone together for a while now.
I should really find out what they’re up to.
Right after I eat lunch.
Chapter Sixty-Seven
Zane
Our future pack leader has been pacing the room for at least twenty minutes, while I sit back in the chair and work on loosening the zip-ties that are really starting to bug the hell out of me.
It would go faster if I had a knife, but there’s no way he’ll let me near the kitchen again.
“Maybe you should go check on our mate,” I suggest, knowing he won’t take the bait.
He frowns at me and continues pacing. He’s keeping me separate from the others because he’s convinced I’m a bad guy. He wants Cameron to check what I’ve told him, to discredit my story, but he’ll find out I’m not lying soon enough.
Well, actually, more like at least five hours from now considering the four-hour-long round trip and whatever he’s having Cameron do to check things. That’s a damn long time to have my hands tied behind my back.
“You know she’s near her heat, right? Her first heat.”
He stops walking and comes back over to where I’m sitting.
“Don’t you ever shut your mouth?”
I shoot him a wry smile. “We all have our faults.”
“I can tell Zelena’s getting close to her first heat. I’m aware of the needs she has.”
“Yeah, but have you ever considered why her first heat hasn’t come on before now?”
He narrows his eyes at me. “Not all Omegas have early first heats.”
“Ninety percent of them experience their first heat before they turn twenty. The ones that don’t are usually either holding on to the thought of meeting their true mates, or they’ve been steered off the path fate laid out for them. Sometimes it’s a bit of both.”
“What the hell is your point?”
“My point is her heat was delayed. Which means it’s going to hit her like a freight train when it starts. You should think about that when you’re wasting time checking into my story. She’s my priority. Why isn’t she yours?”
I don’t usually poke angry bears, but this one’s really asking for it.
If looks could kill, I’d be a dead man right about now.
“You know nothing about my priorities.”
“I know if they were worth a damn you’d be looking after Zoey right now, instead of babysitting me.”
His stare somehow gets even darker. This guy is a top of the rung Alpha, a leader of leaders, and I’m questioning his decisions. I’ll be lucky to get out of this room without blood being drawn.
I’m just not completely sure if that’s going to be from a punch, or a mark.
