“It’s okay, Dr. Kind. You got this.” Carly smiled at her.
Charlotte pushed again, and I could see the baby’s head.
“I see her head. I want you to bear down and give another big push.”
She pushed again and laid back down.
“One more big push, Charlotte. Come on.”
“I’m here!” Georgia ran into the room and grabbed a pair of gloves.
I moved out of the way and grabbed Charlotte’s other hand.
“Come on, Charlotte. Let’s bring your baby into the world.” Georgia smiled.
Charlotte screamed as she pushed as hard as she could while Conner and I held onto her. Suddenly, the cries of a newborn baby could be heard throughout the unit.
“Here you go, Dad.” Georgia smiled as Carly handed him the scissors to cut the cord.
“Charlotte, she’s beautiful,” Conner said as he cut the cord.
After Carly cleaned her up and did an exam, she wrapped her tightly in a blanket and handed her to Charlotte.
“Congratulations, you two.” She smiled.
I looked at Conner as tears streamed down his face. I wouldn’t lie and say a few tears didn’t fill my eyes because they did.
“I love you so much, babe.” Conner kissed Charlotte’s lips.
“I love you too, Conner. Look at her. She’s perfect.”
“She’s like her mom.” He smiled.
Charleigh walked into the room and stopped when she saw the baby in Charlotte’s arms.
“She’s here! Oh my gosh. She’s beautiful.” Charleigh smiled.
“Welcome to the world, Isabella Eve Kind.” Conner kissed her head.
Charlotte handed Isabella to him. He held her while tears streamed down his face.
“Hi there. I’m your daddy, and I’ve waited so long to hold you in my arms. I love you so much, baby girl.”
Charleigh smiled as she hooked her arm around me. My pager went off, and when I looked at it, I was needed down in the ER.
“The ER needs me. I’ll be back up later.” I walked over to Conner and hooked my arm around him as he held his daughter. “Congrats, Dad.” I kissed the side of his head.
“Thanks, bro.”
“Thank you, Christian, for being here with me,” Charlotte said.
“I wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else.” I smiled as I kissed her forehead. “I’ll see you two later.”

My eyes opened to the sound of the alarm going off. Reaching over, I turned it off, and Charleigh stirred as my arm held her tightly against me. She lifted her head from my chest and looked at me with her beautiful eyes.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, babe.”
