When the alarm went off the next morning, I stepped into the shower and got ready to head to the hospital. Charleigh didn’t have to be up for a couple of more hours, so I kissed her forehead and left.

Grabbing a coffee from the coffee bar, I headed to pre-op to see Sofia before she went into surgery.

“How’s the patient?” I grinned as I walked in.

“Just dandy.” She sighed.

“Is Conner even here yet?” Nathan asked.

“Yeah, I’m here.” He walked in with a strange look on his face.

“What’s wrong?” Nathan asked.

“Unfortunately, we need to cancel the surgery.”

“What? Why?” Sofia asked.

“I just got the results back of your urine test. You’re pregnant, Sofia.”

“What!” Nathan exclaimed.

“I’m sorry. What did you just say?” Sofia stared at Conner.

“You heard me.” Conner smirked. “As sad as I am that I have to cancel your surgery, I’m happy I got to tell you two the good news.”

“Yay! No surgery for me. We’re having another baby, Nathan.” Tears filled her eyes.

Nathan wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tight. “Let’s get this IV out so I can take you home.”

“Congratulations, you two.” I smiled.

“You know, Sof,” Conner said. “I wouldn’t put it past you to have planned this to get out of surgery.”

“Yeah, yeah, Conner. Think what you want. Nathan and I are just as shocked.”

“We’ll leave you two alone.” I smiled. “Come on, Conner.” We walked out.

I was happy for them, but I couldn’t put the argument Charleigh and I had last night out of my mind.

“I haven’t even had my kid yet, and Nathan is on number three.” Conner grinned. “Who would have thought.”

“Yeah.” I let out a sigh.

“What’s wrong, bro?”

“Nothing,” I said.

“I call bullshit.” He stopped me in the middle of the hallway.

I glanced at my watch. “I have an hour until I have to be in surgery. Let’s go grab some breakfast.”

“Sure. I have time now since Sofia’s surgery was canceled.” He hooked his arm around me.

We went up to the rooftop, grabbed a couple of breakfast sandwiches, and sat down.

“What’s going on?” Conner asked.

“Charleigh told me last night that she doesn’t ever want kids.”
