I am loved. And I love. Fiercely. Madly. Wildly. Fully.
I wouldn’t change that for the world.
“Stud?” Sam asks quietly, tightening his grip on my side. “See somethin’?”
A smile tips my lips as Wyatt’s eye holds mine, and I raise my hand in response to his hello. For just a beat longer, that’s how we stand. Then Wyatt gives me a nod and turns away, and that’s that.
“Just an old friend,” I tell Sam, turning his way and snagging his belt loops. Winnie is preoccupied once more with her phone.
Sam’s eyes crease at the corners, a gentle display of concern, but he gives me a nod. “Anythin’ else you wanna do before we head home?”
I hum. “I heard there’s a new bakery in town.”
Sam barks a laugh. “Why am I not surprised that you wanna get some treats to go?” He leans close, lips whispering across mine. “My husband’s got the biggest sweet tooth.”
“Guilty,” I reply, a grin on my face as I step back and hold out my hand. Sam takes it as he tells Winnie we’re going to stop by the bakery, and I glance over my shoulder one last time.
Plum Valley sits peacefully under the midday sun, tall grasses in the fields off of Main Street blowing gently in the wind. The land stretches golden, a few cattle dotting the landscape in the distance, and above is bright blue sky. It may not be home, but it sure is beautiful. I give it a quiet goodbye before turning my focus to where I know my heart belongs.
Winnie grabs my free hand, eager to visit the bakery, and Sam keeps a hold of the other. I give him a squeeze, feeling his ring brush against my skin, and he looks over at me, his smile beaming and beautifully bright. It’s sunshine and starlight and my future rolled into one.
And I wish, I wish, I wish…
For not a single thing more.
The End
