Please, please get it to go.
It’s like God doesn’t hear me because I’ve barely got the sentence out of my head and drumming rhythmically in my body and he growls. “Nope. I’m gonna have it here.”
“Terrific.” He grunts and shoots me a wary look before he stomps over and parks his big ass on one of the smaller stools next to me.
“Do you have to park yourself next to me?”
“Nope. I just want to.”
Eyeing him like one eyes a tiger about to pounce, I shrink back a little bit, trying to keep myself away from his heat and that overpowering feeling of being prey.
“I want to talk to you about something,” he growls.
“I don’t think we have anything to talk about.”
“I think we do and I think you might like what I have to say.”
“Humph!” I snort. “I find that hard to believe.”
“Well, I can’t talk to you about it here but I want to set up a time to have a serious discussion that I think could help us both deal with our…leftover feelings.”
My eyes slew his way. “You have leftover feelings for me?”
“I didn’t say that.”
“What are you saying?”
“Meet for dinner tonight and we can talk.”
Curiosity has to be the strongest motivator for every one of my stupid mistakes because I find myself saying, “fine.”
Cassie comes around the corner and he smiles at her in such a way that all of a sudden I feel the urge to rip her long hair out by the roots. She’s a really pretty woman and when she smiles back, a growl rumbles in my throat.
Her wide eyes whip around and she stumbles. “Is there a dog in here?”
Hank snorts and smirks at me. “I think that was Kat. She seems to have something stuck in her throat.”
Glaring at him, I turn to my new friend and smile. “I did have something caught in my throat but I think I’m fine now. Whatever it was, it’s gone now. Wasn’t even worth a mention,” I snarl at him and he snickers.
Cassie grins and tries to hand Hank his food and drink but he nods his head and shoots her a wicked smirk. “Would it be too much trouble if I got that to go?”
“Of course not. Let me go take care of that.”
I watch her and then jump when Hank leans over and whispers in my ear. “I had a dream about you last night. It had a happy ending.”
She squeaks and glares at me. “That is freaking rude as hell, Hank. “
“I can’t control my dreams, Kat. And I’m not sure if I’d change a thing if I could.”
Cassie hustles back around the corner and hands me the bag and cup. “You have a good day, Hank. Tell the guys hi!”
“If I see them I will. I’m off for the next couple of days.” He stares at me while he’s talking and I feel like he’s trying to tell me something. But I don’t know what it is.
His voice deepens and roughens, his eyes black with desire. “I’ll see you later tonight.”
I nod and wait for him to leave, sure that I’m about to hear a whole lot from Cassie who is almost vibrating with suppressed laughter.
Hank backs out and waves at us.
