"You can't be serious! Just leave you here by yourself?"
"I’m a grown man. I’ve survived on my own for years, I think I can manage."
"My father will not be happy about this. I can't just leave you."
He looked at her. Her father? What did he have to do with any of this? Yes, he was on his legal team, but he had no say on who Liam hired as his manager.
"Well, this is what is happening. Pack your bags. Set up the meeting room and I’ll call cars for everyone."
"No, it's fine. Let's just figure this out. We can scout today and then get back to the city."
"Jacinda, if you do not get out of this room right now you are fired. I’m trying to calm down here, there is still a big fucking chance you are fired anyway. So, I would stop pushing it and leave. Now."
She turned and left, the door shutting behind her. Liam raked his hand down his face. What the hell just happened? He didn't like the way she was treating people. And the way she had acted like he didn't have the right to fire his own fucking manager just pissed him off. He felt like there was something he was missing because that entire situation seemed fucked.
A shower. He needed a shower, but first things first. He called up his car service and ordered cars to take everyone back to the city. Then he headed into his bathroom and turned on the shower to just about scalding. He needed to clear his mind before his show. And his date.
Chapter8
Lexi
As Liam and Jacinda left the office Lexi laid her head on her desk with a thud. What the hell had just happened? Had she just been asked out by a pop star she thought was a pompous douchebag, only to find out he knew nothing about all the douchebag things he had done? Not that he had been a douchebag to her, because it was quite the opposite in fact. He had been lovely. Every encounter they had was lovely. She just thought he was a douchebag because of that fucking list, and it turns out he didn't know anything about it.
Not only that, but she felt this magnetic pull whenever he was around. Is it possible he felt it too? He seemed to, at least a little bit, but what on earth would they have in common? He dated movie stars and models, not people like Lexi.
Sure, physically she didn't think she was his type, but her life was also boring. She loved her boring life. Yes, she should see her brother more and she could get out of the house a little more, but she was happy here at her job and she was content to go home and live her life.
She was, wasn't she?
She had never really thought about it before because what was the point? Her job paid the bills and that was fine. When she really stopped to think about it, what could she have in common with him? All she knew was this inn. She had given up so much when she was younger and life was about survival. She didn’t even know who she was outside of that.
But that was a problem for another day. Today she was going out tonight with Liam James. She was tempted to google him again, find out more, but she knew she had things about herself she would want to reveal in her own time, and who was she to take that decision away from him? Suddenly her phone was dinging on her desk.
Poppy- Hey Lexi, just seeing if you needed a lunch order today.
Lexi- Let me check, I’ll get back to you.
She left her office, and Nancy was on the phone. "Yes Sir, I will get everyone checked out right away. If you need anything else, just let me know." Then she put the phone back in its cradle.
"What's that all about?" Lexi asked.
"Well, that was Liam James. Apparently, they are all checking out today." Lexi's heart sank. Of course, she was just being foolish. Of course, he was going back to his own life.
"Well, actually, all except one," Nancy said. Lexi turned to look at her, hope starting to creep back in. "He’s staying and everyone else is leaving. Cars should be here for them in a couple of hours. He also asked if he could have the meeting room to stream an acoustic set for his fans."
"Yeah, we should be able to make that happen," Lexi said, turning her face from Nancy. Nancy didn’t need to see the smile spreading across her face right now. What the hell was even happening? She felt like a giddy schoolgirl. She hadn't even been giddy when she was a schoolgirl.
She went back into her office and called up to his room.
"Hello." Just the sound of his saying hello made her weak in the knees.
"Hi. It’s me... umm it's Lexi,"
"Mmmm, hello Lexi," he purred into the phone. He had absolutely no business sounding as sexy as he did. If his voice did that to her, there was no way she would be able to withstand the full-on assault of his sexiness tonight.
"I'm not sure what to say. Nancy told me your whole team is checking out today. I hope I didn't cause you any trouble."
"You didn't cause any trouble. I'm glad you told me. I don't want people acting on my behalf when it is not truly on my behalf. Anyway, I am glad to have a couple of days of peace and quiet."
