“Wait, so there are authorized killings of mortals?”

“You would have to ask a Dominions that question.”

“No, thank you,” I say with a shudder, as I do not wish to spend any more time with Chris Sullivan. We finish dinner and Gabe helps me put up the leftovers.

“Come watch TV with me. We’ll give Love Bites another chance,” I say as we walk to the living room and I turn on the show.

Snuggling next to Gabe, we get about halfway through the terrible cheesy show about vampires. “Who decided drinking blood is sexy?” I ponder out loud. “I’ve planned on being a doctor for the longest, so obviously blood doesn’t bother me. But I’d hardly call it sexy.”

“No one that’s had an encounter with a true ‘vampire’ would call it sexy.” He uses air quotes.

“There really are vampires?” I ask, my eyes wide.

“Not exactly.”

“Well how exactly?” I play elbow him.

“There are some demons who love blood.”

“Love blood how?”

“Any way you can imagine.”

I grab the remote and stop the show. “And that’s enough of Love Bites. Let’s try Archangel, instead. Unless you’re going to tell me some creepy facts about angels.”

“I will keep my lips sealed,” he promises.

Starting the show, I sneak a peek at Gabe sitting beside me. More specifically his lips, since he mentioned them. I lick mine, thinking of the sweet taste of that amazing kiss from last night. Trying to focus on the show, I soon discover that’s a mistake. This must be why Vivian recommended it—we watch a very graphic sex scene involving angel dust. And now I’m thinking about Gabe’s wings, and wondering if he also has that little trick.

He catches me staring at him. “Everything okay?” he asks.

Answering by rising up on my knees and grabbing his shirt, I pull him down to meet me for a kiss. He swipes his tongue over my lips, and I moan, opening to him. His tongue wraps around mine and ah, there it is, that taste again. It’s the sweetest thing.

I climb in his lap and straddle him as we continue with the delicious kiss. Feeling him harden beneath me, I grind myself on his cock. “God, yes, this is what I need,” I moan against his lips, not meaning to say it out loud, but too turned on to worry about it.

“You’ll get no arguments from me.” He smiles against my lips as his hands grab my ass, pulling me closer to him.

He deepens the kiss, and it’s so good and I’m aching for more, but then mentally, I’m back in Brad’s warehouse, and I panic. Jerking away from him, I focus on my breath so that I don’t hyperventilate.

“I’m sorry. You must think I’m crazy.” I groan, climbing off his lap.

“No, I don’t think you’re crazy. You’re just not ready,” he says, dragging a hand down his face. He sighs as he leans down and kisses me on the head. “I promise to wait until you are.”

“Why?” I eye him curiously. “I’m sure you could have any woman you want.”

“Not true, because the woman I want needs more time.”

Not having a response to that, we get back to watching the show. Well, I do anyway. I look over to see Gabe’s already out. It’s not long before I catch myself drifting off. I should get up, but he’s so warm and smells so good and it feels so safe, that the next thing I know, morning light’s pouring in through the window.

Gabe sits upright, looking a bit disoriented. He glances at his phone. “I’ve got to go,” he says in a rush, disappearing.

Gabe

I’ve spent the night twice now with Charlotte—neither how I envisioned, but I’ll take what I can get. For now, anyway. Teleporting home, I quickly get ready for work.

I soon arrive at my office and walk to the reception area to see how far behind I already am this morning. “Cupid, what’s with you? This might be the first time I’ve ever beaten you to the office,” Damion Blackmon says, and I do a double take.
