"It did, though the pack was surprised. He wasn't supposed to go into heat then, I don't think."
He nods. "That makes sense. Once an omega pair meets, their cycles would sync up. More than likely his heat stayed on the same schedule as yours. Though, I will need to verify that with him."
"This is insane. People aren't fated to be together. That's just a fairy tale we were told."
Finn chuckles. "Does this feel like just a fairy tale to you?"
"No." I shake my head. "So what does this mean? Does this mean I have to choose Pack Lewitt now? How is that fair to any of the other suitors? It's not just them that I'm interested in. I came here to find a pack—not to have one shoved down my throat."
My breathing has picked up, and I know a panic attack is coming on, but I can't seem to calm myself. This isn't how it was supposed to be. This isn't how any of this was supposed to go. I don't want to be told that I have to choose someone—or a pack of someones. I don't want to be fate's bitch.
"Breathe with me, Sophia. Focus on my breathing and mimic it."
Finn's voice sounds so far away as the room, and my thoughts spin around me. When my sight starts to darken at the edges, I welcome it. I can't deal with this right now.
I don't care if it makes me a coward.
As the darkness pulls me under, I have a moment to realize I'm just going to have to deal with it all when I wake up, but that's a later problem.
"Sophia."
I ignore the voice, burrowing under the covers and discovering a hard body there. I open my mouth to snarl at whoever is in the bed with me before the sunshine scent hits me and I melt into the body. Chase's arms tighten around me as I hear others speaking around us, but I ignore them and focus on the feeling of being in his arms again.
"Soph?" Chase whispers and I feel the covers being lifted up and over our heads. Only then do I blink my eyes open to look up at him. "Hey, there you are."
"Here I am," I say as my eyes fall shut again. Being in his arms is perfect. I sigh before stiffening as I try to figure out why I'm in bed with him. "Ummm... why are we in bed together?"
He chuckles. "I was wondering when you'd start to question that. What's the last thing you remember?"
I frown as I blink away the sleep that feels heavy in my head. "I was talking to Finn, and we realized—oh, shit."
I sit up abruptly, and Chase follows so he can keep his arms around me. The blanket falls from our heads, and I blink in the bright light. Seconds later it dims, and I find the rest of Pack Lewitt, Bree, Tessa, and Finn standing around my bed.
"We've got to stop meeting this way, omega," Tessa says with a tight smile as she reaches for my hand.
Chase growls at the alpha, yanking me out of her reach. Tessa grimaces but steps back from the bed.
"This could be a problem," she says, focusing on Bree and Finn. "None of us knew that this was a possibility."
Finn shakes his head. "How could you? While she was out, I looked it up. There hasn't been an omega pair in over seventy years."
"An omega pair?" Carson asks, voice quiet as his eyes stay locked on me and Chase. "What are you talking about?"
"Shit. There's a lot we need to talk about." Bree runs a hand over her face. "The four of you are supposed to be doing your interview right now."
"That can fucking wait," Liam spits out. "We need answers."
Tessa raises her arm. "I think we all do. The interview can wait, and if we need to postpone the rose ceremony a few hours, it'll be fine. Sophia, do you think you're okay to move this conversation to the dining room? I don't think you want all of us taking over your room.
I just nod, not bothering with words. I already know more than Pack Lewitt about the bombshell about to be dropped on their heads, and as much as I'd like the comfort of my nest right now there's no way I'll invite them inside. Staying in my bed won't help anyone.
I might have had a moment of weakness, but I'm strong enough to face this. This doesn't affect just me, but their entire pack. I don't even know what we can do about this—what should be done. But it's something we're going to have to decide on together.
Carson reaches out to help me and Chase out of bed, but I shake my head, and he quickly steps back. My legs are a little wobbly when I first stand up, but Chase helps steady me. He links our fingers together, and we follow Finn, Bree, and Tessa to the dining room with Carson, Liam, and Asher at our backs.
Bree walks to the head of the table, taking the seat I usually sit in during meals while Finn and Tessa take the seats on each of her sides. I cling to Chase, wanting him to remain at my side. When I glance up at him, he looks undecided.
"It's okay, Chase. Sophia needs you right now." Asher kisses his forehead before glancing down at me. "Would it be alright if I sat on Chase's other side?"
