“You do that anyways.” He’s quick to laugh with me. Pulling me back into his side.

“But really, how?”

I shrug, not sure how to explain the difference between identical twins to him. “His whole demeanor is different. Darker. Dominating. Alec has his darkness, but he’s like light to Rachel. He makes her shine. That guy had her bowing.”

He scoffs, “She was not. Rachel doesn’t bow.”

I shrug, not really needing to win this argument. I know what I saw and that was a man who could get our Snow Queen to bow for him. Not because she’s weak, because she’s strong enough that she doesn’t have to be insecure in her desire for someone else to take control. “It’s no different to when I let go and let you all lead.”

“That’s sex,” he points out.

Fair enough. “I’m more stubborn.”

He laughs as we push through the doors that lead to the private rooms on the second floor. We bypass them and walk down another hallway before turning into the meeting where Luca and Ryder are already waiting for us.

“Took you guys long enough,” Ryder complains.

I wave him off as I pull away from Kade and walk over to Luca. Him and Ry were gone before I woke up again this morning. “Hey, Bossman,” I greet him with a smile. He wastes no time yanking me to his chest and stealing a kiss.

“Have you guys got any news for us?” I ask as soon as I pull away.

He shakes his head but it’s Ryder that actually gives me an answer. “Nothing notable. You already know the lift was successful. They got it all stored away. And as of right now, Romano is none the wiser. A few more trails were left behind. All leading us to attempt to get back Rachel’s product.”

I hum as I contemplate that. “Does he think we’re that dumb? It’s an obvious trap.”

Kade picks up a pen from the table and starts twirling it through his fingers. “I don’t think it’s that. To him, it’s a matter of pride.”

I chew on that and it makes more sense than anything else. He just never thought we would outsmart him, bypassing a hit to our pride and taking a bigger one against him. I can live with that outcome. “He sure isn’t going to be happy when he realizes what we did.”

I doubt any of us are prepared for his retribution. I wonder just how long we have until he notices?

Just then Rachel struts into the room, Alec one step behind her. I keep my gaze steady on him as he follows her closely. It’s definitely him. As she reaches the desk and leans against it, he rests his hand on her hip and gives her a squeeze.

“You both look well,” I say with a wide smile. I don’t mean to taunt her, but I kind of can’t help it.

Alec looks at me with laughter dancing in his eyes as Rachel doesn’t even acknowledge my tone. Well boo. That’s no fun.

The door slams open again and in storms Mr. Dark and Broody from earlier. Maybe I spoke too soon.

“This is not going to go well,” Rachel mutters as she turns her face into Alec’s chest. Still no sign of guilt there. Alec’s amusement only grows as he watches his brother storm up to Luca.

“It’s really not,” he agrees, patting her back. Everything about their dynamic confirms that he knows about the two of them. I’m kind of glad. I like Rachel and Alec together.

“So you’re the one who dragged my brother and Rachel into the middle of this war they have no business being in the middle of?” our mysterious stranger bellows in Luca’s face.

My hackles immediately rise as danger rolls off of him in waves. All aimed at my Luca. Mine.

I take a deep breath, reminding myself that this is Alec’s brother. We can’t kill our allies’ brother. Especially not an ally we like.

Luca pulls at his suit sleeves, completely unfazed by the belligerent man in front of him. It’s kind of sexy. But all other thoughts flee from my mind the moment Dark and Douchey puts his hands on Luca. His grip tightens on Luca’s lapels and I see fucking red.

“Oh fuck,” I briefly hear Rachel curse even as Alec snickers.

“He deserves it.”

I launch forward, breaking the grip he has on Luca before punching him square in the throat. His hands fly to his now bruised windpipe and I land another hit to the center of his chest, knocking him back a step.

I follow after him, needing him to not be near Luca. I don’t care that he’s more than capable of defending himself. He’s too polite for his own good. Too willing to deal with this bullshit because of our relationship with Rachel. I’m not.
