When someone sent multiple drinks over to the table for the guys, I took my chance to down one. I assumed the entire night would be boring for me, so I thought I’d get a little tipsy and make my own good time. The next drink I stole was stronger and I choked on it.
“Dammit, Jenny.” Jason reached over and took the glass from me. “That was mine and it wasn’t one of those baby drinks you’re used to.”
I made a face at him. “You snooze, you lose, J.”
Hudson laughed. “Is that a slight slur I’m detecting already, Baby Ramsey?”
“She can’t handle real liquor.” Jason snorted. “Do you remember what happened at your last birthday?”
I winced and rested my elbows on the table. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Oh? You don’t remember informing Mallory that you were pretty sure you knew how to wrestle professionally? Mallory, our cousin who’s a professional wrestler and has gone to the Olympics for this country?” Jason ignored my glare and spoke to the table. “This kid tried to wrestle Mallory, who’s got six inches and a hundred pounds on her. And, you know, years of training.”
I scowled at him. “I didn’t lose.”
“No, you did get us kicked out of the bar, though.” He laughed hard enough that his eyes watered. “And you taught Mallory a new wrestling move. The Jellyfish.”
I giggled and then snorted. “It worked. She couldn’t do anything with me.”
“Pretty sure you’re not allowed to cover yourself in lube before a wrestling match, Jen.” He’d gone red from laughing. “Imagine our surprise when Jenny came out of the bathroom covered in an industrial sized bottle of lube, a shit-eating grin, and nothing else. I was traumatized.”
“Hey! That’s not true! I had underwear on. It was just white, and the lube turned it clear. How was I supposed to know? It’s not like I’d made a habit of covering myself in lube before that night.” I took off my glasses and held them out. “I think I could’ve taken her.”
Jason cleaned my glasses and laughed. “That’s the liquor talking.”
Ryder made a pained sound and I looked over to realize he was laughing silently, tears trailing down his cheeks as his shoulders shook violently. His face was red from trying to contain it and he looked like he was struggling to breathe.
Axel wasn’t much better. “Holy shit. My sides hurt. Stop talking! Both of you!”
I shrugged. “Fine. You’re missing the best part of the story, though.”
“Jenny.” Jason’s warning meant nothing to me.
“Since Mallory refused to be embarrassed by me, the wrestling artist formerly known as The Jellyfish, Jason stepped in. She wiped the floor with him.” I could see another group approaching our table, but I couldn’t stop. “He ended up crying and claiming she’d cheated. We all knew he was just pouting, though.”
Jason shoved a drink in front of me. “Drink this and be quiet, Jenny.”
I did, happily, and looked over at Hudson. He was grinning back at me, his focus completely on me. “What?”
He shook his head and leaned closer. “I’m just trying to figure out who had the industrial sized bottle of lube.”
***Hudson***
“Oh,shit.”Jasonleaned across the table and tapped his fingers on it to get our attention. “Megan Stanley just walked in. Make sure Jenny gets home safe?”
Jenny, three drinks in, was bold as she stretched her arms over her head and pushed the tiny jersey she was wearing to its limits. “I’m fine, J. Go and be a creep. I can get home all on my own.”
I patted Jason’s shoulder. “We’ve got her.”
He nodded and disappeared into the crowd, trusting the three people he should’ve been able to trust with his little sister. Unfortunately, his best friends were hooked on his baby sister, and he shouldn’t have trusted us to keep our hands to ourselves. It didn’t help that as soon as he was out of view, Jenny reached up and pulled the ties out of her hair. It fell down her back and she finished us off by shaking it out with her eyes closed. The soft moan she made was innocent, Jenny wasn’t someone who put on shows, but that moan nearly broke each of us.
Someone slid into the booth next to me and spoke, but I couldn’t take my eyes off Jenny. My mind was full of images of her covered in lube while trying to wrestle someone.
She looked past me and then giggled as she looked up at me. “Hudson.”
I leaned closer. “Yeah?”
She cupped my face and then turned it so I had to see the woman next to me who’d been attempting to gain my attention. The woman was beautiful, sure, and before Jenny had strolled into our house, I would’ve been interested. As it was, I just…wasn’t. I smiled and shook my head at her before turning back to Jenny.
