Zayn glanced at me.

“Him? Oh well, I forget not everyone knows Gil.” He removed the scalpel from Gael’s neck and pointed it at me. “Let me introduce my brother, Gilberto, and he has every right to be here, considering it’s his girlfriend you fucked with. Tut, tut, Gael, pissing off not only your own boss and the head of the mafia too. A very ill-conceived move on your part.”

“W-what?”

Zayn gave him a bland smile and proceeded to dig the scalpel into Gael’s arm. The guy let out a yelp and stared down at where blood started to pool around the wound.

“Oh no, you don’t get to ask any more questions. Why did you give Theia those letters?”

Gael stared at the blood for a long moment.

“They promised me they would let my girl go free if I did what they asked.”

Zayn narrowed his eyes.

“What is her name?”

“Raylin.”

He snorted and dug the scalpel in deeper, making Gael cry out from the pain.

“I don’t tolerate liars, Gael. You don’t know this, but it was my people who set you free from that hellhole. I saved you, so you better start giving me real answers.”

“How… how do you know that name?”

Zayn cocked his head to the side.

“She’s recovering as we speak. My people freed her two months ago. Now, are you going to tell me the real reason or not?”

Gael looked between us, then his expression turned grim, and he looked a little put out about having to explain himself to us. Fucker should have thought harder about messing with one of his work colleagues when their boss was a Villetti.

“Fine. You want to know the truth? They were pissed off because your brother stabbed a guy in the hand when he was at the club. When his friend described the girl who started it all to H, the boss, he knew exactly who she was. They wanted her back, so they told me if I got them for her, they would leave me be. Said I didn’t have to do much other than make sure she got the letters and let them into the building when they were ready to take her. That’s all I did.”

Zayn looked at me. I knew exactly who Gael was talking about. It was from the night I’d met Theia. That fucker who had started harassing her. All I’d known was Arlo had got rid of him and banned him and his friend from the club. H was the guy who tried to take Theia from the building.

I dug my hand into my pocket and drew out the gun before I stepped up to Gael and put it under his chin.

“You did this to Theia to save yourself?”

“Yes. And I would do it again. Listen, she’s a nice girl and all, but it doesn’t mean I owe her any loyalty.”

“Does the Raven know who she is?”

Gael swallowed against the barrel. I wanted to know since Pippa had met Theia last night, and the way she’d looked at my girl had made me suspicious. If these men were trying to get Theia back, there was no way in hell Pippa didn’t know about it.

“I don’t know. They didn’t talk about the Raven. No one ever does.”

“Pity.”

And without another word, I fired. The bullet sliced through his head, killing him instantly. Zayn let out a sigh and pulled the scalpel from Gael’s arm. He had said I could choose Gael’s fate. He’d put Theia in danger. Hebetrayedher. He was someone she trusted with her body after everything that had happened to her. What he’d done was unforgivable in my eyes.

“I never expected him to be such a selfish piece of shit,” Zayn muttered as he wiped the scalpel off on Gael’s t-shirt.

“He was one of the only people she trusts here. Shefuckingtrusted him after all the shit she’s been through, and this is how he repays her.”

I shook my head, disgusted by this entire thing.

“I know.”
