“All done.” Graham smiled.
“Great.” She glanced between us and pulled a bill folder out of her apron. “Ready for the check?”
“We are,” I said.
“One bill, or two…” She looked between us again.
“One,” we said at the same time.
Graham’s leg brushed mine under the table, the contact too long and deliberate to be an accident.
I kept my attention on our server.
She looked between us again and carefully placed the bill in the middle of the table.
Graham’s leg pushed against mine. It took everything in me to not burst out laughing as she slowly backed up and darted away.
“Smart girl.” I opened the folder. “Not nearly as exciting as when you took out your twin sugar babies, but entertaining nonetheless.”
“How much is my share?” Graham reached into his back pocket, presumably for his wallet.
“Nothing.”
He froze. “What do you mean?”
“I mean nothing.” I thumbed some bills out of my wallet and tucked them into the folder. “It’s my treat.”
“I can’t let you pay.”
I gave him a pointed look. “You can, and you will.”
He stared at me for a moment. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. Ready to go?”
He nodded, and we slid out of the booth.
“Any plans for the rest of the night?” I asked when we were outside.
“Nope.”
“Want to do something?”
“Yeah, okay. Like what?”
“I’m not sure. We don’t have a ton of options because it’s Sunday and we both have to get up at the ass crack of dawn tomorrow.”
“Want to walk around for a bit and people watch?” he asked. “I know it’s kinda lame, but—”
“Sounds good.”
He smiled, and the effect was…powerful. It lit up his entire face and made him look young and carefree and happy. Jesus, he was gorgeous no matter what, but happy Graham was downright breathtaking.
We fell into step and headed down the street. The back of his hand brushed mine. I fought the urge to lace our fingers together.
We walked a few blocks in companionable silence.
Everything about the night screamed date, but was it? Did Graham think this was a date? Did it matter if it was?
