“What happens now, Griffin?” Mrs. Bennett wipes the tears from her face.
“Well, we start looking. We are going through all of his credit card transactions and have a BOLO out on his truck. Girls, is there any place Winry mentioned him taking her while they dated?”
“No, they never really did anything together,” Wyla croaks.
“I have her location on her phone!” Waverley exclaims.
“I’m sorry, honey, we found her phone on the counter at Crossroads. I know this hard, but we just have to be patient. I have everyone on this. I called the neighboring counties too. Please, girls, I know you want to go look for your sister, but he is dangerous. I don’t want you in trouble either.”
The girls all just look at each other, plotting what to do next.
“Girls, promise me you won’t go out looking on your own,” he gives them a stern look then turns to me. “And you, you need to go home and get some sleep. You were working all last night, and you will be out tonight.”
“Like hell I am…” I protest, but he holds up his hand to stop me.
“It wasn’t up for discussion. Go home. All of you.” He points to us all with a look that says he is not messing around, but there is no way I can just go home and sleep.
To be honest, I don’t know what to do next. There is no way that Chief is going to give me any of the information they find right now. I can’t just go home and wait though.
“Graham,” Wyla and Waverley stop me before I get in the car. “You aren’t going home, right?”
“Not a chance in hell, but you two are not coming with me. Your dad would literally kill me.”
“But…” Waverley starts.
“No, no fucking way. I am not putting you two in danger also.”
“Fine, but just promise us you will find her,” tears drop from Wyla’s face.
“That I can promise.” I get in my car and head to Owen’s. I am going to need all the help I can get.
Chapter 25
Winry
Myheadispounding, and my entire body aches. What happened? Where am I? I blink my eyes open, the light burning with each blink. At first, everything is fuzzy, but from what I can make out I am lying down on someone’s couch.
My vision starts to clear and I am definitely on a couch, but I still have no idea where I am. I try to sit up and realize my hands are tied together with some cable ties. I look around I don’t see anyone, but to the right I can see the beach outside from the windows.
I do my best to stand, but my knees wobble and fall back on the couch. I feel dizzy, and there is a lingering metallic taste in my mouth. It suddenly all comes rushing back to me. Crossroads, Flynn, then darkness.
Shit. Shit. Shit.
Where am I? Where is Flynn? I try standing again, slower this time, and make it to my feet. I have to get out of here.
I spot the front door. Damn, why is it so far away? Okay, I can do this. One step at a time. Right foot first, then left. With each step, pain radiates through my body, and my anxiety is astronomical.
I make it to the front door and turn the knob.
“Well, look who is up.” Flynn comes up behind me and pounds his hand against the door, keeping me from opening it. “It was really cute watching you try to sneak out.”
“Flynn, please let me go.” I close my eyes and pray a silent prayer.
“Not happening. You and I are going to go on our first little trip together today.” He smiles at me and picks me up, carrying me back to the couch. “We just have to hang out here until our flight’s ready, and we are off to the Dominican.”
“Flynn, please don’t do this. Just leave me here. You can get out of here. You don’t need me.” I’m not below begging at this point.
“That may be true, but I want to take you.” He brushes the hair from my face, and I flinch.
