I groaned when I heard Fox’s voice and turned around to face the monitor on Cap’s wall. Fox was waving at me like a maniac. “What the fuck do you want?”
He tossed his head back and laughed. “This rapport we have between us is great. I say hi. You tell me to fuck off. It’s great, am I right?”
“No.” I said, getting my point across with my angry retort.
But he didn’t take it that way. He just started laughing. “Man, the Kamau! It’s just so great that we’re working together again.”
“We’re not working together again.”
“We kind of are,” he chuckled.
“No, we’re not.”
“Yeah, we are. You’re here. I’m here. It’s like we’re linked like BFF’s!”
“We’re not linked,” I growled.
Kate chuckled beside me. If we were alone in our house, I’d give her something to chuckle about, and then I’d fuck her into the mattress until she didn’t laugh for days.
“What the fuck is this about, Cap?”
“I’ll let Cash lay it out for you.”
I turned back to the screen and saw Cash take over, pushing Fox out of the shot. “You can talk to him on your own time,” he grumbled, then ran his hand through his hair with a sigh. “Sorry to disrupt your day, but we have a bit of a snarly situation that we need help with.”
“No,” I answered immediately.
“You haven’t even heard what it is.”
“And the answer is still no.”
He grinned at me and continued. “We have an older woman that appears to have a medical condition that no one understands. She’s in a dangerous situation and we need to get her out.”
“I don’t extract old ladies.”
“Yeah, that’s not the favor we’re asking for.”
He was silent for a minute and I finally caught on to what he was asking. I stood so fast, I shoved the chair backward. “No fucking way. You want to send Kate into a dangerous situation?”
“See? I told you he’d react this way,” Pappy to Cap.
“It’s not dangerous for her.”
“Since when does anyone walk into a dangerous situation, but it’s not dangerous for them? I call bullshit. And my answer is still no.”
“She’s being drugged. We don’t know if she’s able to be transported. We need Kate to go in and assess her, then report to Ambrose Buchanan.”
My eyebrows shot up in surprise. “Buchanan? You want me to let my wife near that slimy fucker?”
He was fucking insane if he thought that was going to happen.
“Ambrose is a well known banker. His illegal dealings aren’t something the entire world knows about. He won’t do anything to her.”
“You hope,” I shot back. “And if you’re so fucking confident, why don’t you send in your own doctor?”
He looked off screen, then swatted at Fox. “I know, I’ll tell him.” He turned back to me and sighed, rolling his eyes. “Fox said he would act as her bodyguard.”
“No fucking way.” That was even less likely to happen than the option of sending her in alone.
