“Do you have any idea how much women love it?”

“Wasn’t it painful?”

“It didn’t feel good, but it’s worth it now. Stop staring at my perfect dick. Get the fuck out of my bedroom. I’ll be out in five minutes.”

“Gladly.” He turns and leaves my bedroom.

I dress similarly to him, in jeans, a T-shirt, and a leather jacket, and then walk out of my bedroom a few minutes later. “Where are we going?”

“Let’s shoot down to Atlantic City. It’s a nice day out. We can have breakfast on the boardwalk and then be home by early afternoon.”

“That sounds good.”

That’s about an hour from here. There would normally be traffic on a Saturday morning in the summer, but not in the fall. Once we’re out of the city, it’s a fast, open ride the whole way down.

We climb aboard the bikes and make it down there in less than forty-five minutes. We practically race the whole way. I win. This bike goes so damn fast. It’s amazing.

We park near the boardwalk and sit down outside at one of our favorite spots. When Carter was still single, we spent a lot of time in Atlantic City. We’d go to clubs and stay in casinos. Reagan is always game to party down here, but it’s not quite the same as prowling for women with your best friend.

The waitress approaches and we order our food.

I look at him. I feel like he brought me here to talk about something. “What’s on your mind? Why are we here?”

He laughs. “I can’t just want to have breakfast with you?”

“Hmm. No. What’s up?”

“I have news to share with you.” A huge grin breaks out on his face. “Reagan’s pregnant. We’re having a baby.”

“Oh, thank God. I thought maybe you were shooting blanks and she was going to need me to come in for the close.”

He scowls at me. “Asshole. She didn’t want to rush things. She wanted to establish herself as the CEO before thinking about starting a family. Selfishly, I haven’t minded having her to myself for the past few years. I’ve loved every minute.”

“Ugh. You’re so pussy-whipped.”

He smirks. “Yes, I am. Proud of it.”

I hold out my hand and smile. “Congrats, man. I’m happy for you guys. I hope the baby looks like her…or me.”

He shakes my hand extra hard. “I hope it looks like her too.”

Our food arrives and we begin eating. “Carter, why did you bring me here to tell me? Did you think I wouldn’t be happy for you?”

He shakes his head. “No, nothing like that. I just wanted to have a nice day and tell you. I feel like I’m entering a different phase of my life, but I want you to know that no matter what, you’ll always be important to me. Obviously, Reagan’s family has become my family, but besides them, in all the ways that matter, you’re my only original family.”

A scrunch my nose. “Your mom still hasn’t come around?”

He shakes his head. “No. She sides with him. I’ll never understand it. It’s hard to have a relationship with her when she won’t get away from him. I won’t ever let my kid around that abusive fucker.”

“I’m sorry. Well, you can always count on me. I’ll always be by your side. You know that, right?”

He nods. “Thanks, Collin. You don’t know what that means to me. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

“You’re already going soft, and the baby hasn’t even come yet.”

“I can live with that.”

“How’s Reagan feeling?”
